New S2R owner in Scotland

Hi guys!

Recently back into biking after 10 years away. Have moved out of the city and need to commute so figured it was time to get back on two wheels. Last bikes were a Buell XB12 and a Speed Triple 1050, but had always really fancied the Monster S2R

So, now this is mine:



The Mustang is not however!

Went for the 800, I'm not a very aggressive rider and not too fat so the stock suspension should be fine and the lighter clutch appealed with lots of city riding. No complaints, the motor is great and the suspension all seems fine to me.

Took it in for a long-overdue major, belts and valves service at North Motorcycles in Leith, Edinburgh. Tyler did a great job, found a few other issues with the bike he sorted and I've got a brand new Pilot Road 4 on the back.

Figured this place will prove handy for tips and getting parts etc

This weekend's job is fitting some heated grips to help me out with the commuting!

Your new Monster looks good, I'm sure you will go far together.
I know you're working on making it yours and the exhaust udder is jumping out at me as needing a scrub.. Folk always neglect Ducati exhausts for some reason? Cleaning them makes a huge difference to the appearance of the whole bike.
Harpic 10X will get the brown off the stainless udder and the rest of the pipework too, for a much improved appearance. I always electro-polish mine and then they are easier to keep clean.
De-cat systems are getting rare and expensive these days!

You're right about the discolouration on the bagpipes. I'll give the magic toilet duck a go!

Linlithgow is OK - a nice place, but maybe a little straight-laced for me...

And yes, it's a shame the Mustang isn't mine - my other ride is a Leyland DAF campervan which is some horrible throwback to the 1970s. Pretty good campervan though.

It may be worth checking up on fleabay to see if theres a set of 'de-cat' pipes about or even though very unlikely a set of carbon 'udder' covers ...the de-cat would 'liberate' the full effect of the termi's !!

Hello and welcome along. As far as exhaust options go there are a few. You could keep everything and just clean up the cat box and that would look better cosmetically or you could keep the Termi slip ons, which are nice btw and source some de-cat headers, which would be a big improvement cosmetically at least and may bag you a tiny performance gain too. Or you could just ditch the whole lot and get a full system, bigger headers, no cat/lamda sensor with a re-map and a lot more umph! Downside is they aren't cheap: 800-1000 new but I reckon you could get 200-300 for the Termi cans alone, the rest I'm afraid is scrap, unless you can find a buyer who wants a bog stock crappy/ugly system.

I'm curious what are the Buell 12's like to ride? I've had and ridden Sporters and big twin Fat boys etc but they either steer like wheel barrows, have frames made of cast iron and weigh a ton or both usually!
