900ie 2000/2001
Good Morning
I’m looking for a Ducati Monster 900ie (MY2000/2001) Red or Black, prefer standard condition, willing to consider if non standard. Grateful for heads up if you have or may know of one that’s available. Thanks. |

does it have to be a 900? theres a lovely clean looking m1000 for sale here (am not connected to the sale) the 1000ds being (in my humble and completely bias opinion) the best engine ever fitted to the monsters

Have to agree the 1000 DS engine is a peach, I had the superspurt for a while, I did consider that Monster 1000 thanks, but looking closer someone has gone nuts with silver spray can on the crank cases even covering the rubber bung in the swingarm pivot!
Also not a great fan of that later generation ECU with the immobiliser et al. |

Hats off to your taste. You have picked the best model and year range. You could only do better if you found an Sie version which have a few little extras.
You're right about the engine "touch up" too. The silver is everywhere. On the fin rubbers, the cover screws, the cable to the bottom oil temp sensor and the starter cable. They have even painted the tabs on the clutch cover and the screws. The cup washers on the oil cooler and the footrest hanger shoulder bolts have caught the silver blizzard too. They should be Gold. Funny how we only get pictures of the right side, maybe the left is worse? Whoever did that should be spanked in public and forbidden from ever buying another rattle can.

yes, it's quite a feat that, and yes thanks, my 2001 monster was the 900Sie, an import from Japan, that was however missing it's ohlins rear shock! (not sure if it ever had one TBH)
They do appear to be a little thin on the ground at the moment, am super grateful to have the extra pairs of eyes looking too |

I have a scruffy 900S (2000) if you fancy one to do up a bit? It's cheap, black with termis, pretty standard apart from mirrors and indicators, missing the seat cowl but has the ohlins shock and headlight fairing, MOT recently out, I bought it with the aim of doing it up a bit but found I haven't the time! Price will reflect the scruffy condition and that it needs some work, it owes me £1500, located Gloucestershire.

There's a 900sie on ebay classifieds but it's yellow, but rarer and nicer than red imho.

A late 2001 Sie might not have had the Ohlins.
The 2000 M900Sie had everything thrown at it and was a very high spec bike. They soon started dropping items from that model once the fuss about the new millennium died down. The model inherited the "ST" frame late in 2001 and lost it's hoop rear suspension link. Not sure whether it then gained the later ECU though? That could be when the Ohlins was dropped? The 2000 is definitely the one to have. I've had mine coming up for 11 years and it's just gone past 50000 miles. I'm giving it a bit of a once over this winter as it deserves it. I think Grumpy still has a 2000 M900Sie in the back of his shed, but it's not for me to say if he'd sell it. He might be able to help you out? The tank has got an idiosyncratic paint job (Character!) and I think a slight dent, but as it happens I'm in the process of spraying up a spare 900ie tank in Rosso with standard decals. So an easy fix for that.

I'm very biased towards anything with the 1000DS engine in it, so would agree with the guys above in that respect.

Gazz l and Nash are right the early S is the one to go for if you want high spec, early carby S's had full floating brakes front and rear too. Unfortunately due to cost measures at the factory early 2000's spec went down and by the time of the 1000sie it was little more than a few cosmetic bits, cowl etc. But they are still good bikes and of course most bits from the earlier bikes will fit, if you can find them s/hand.

Yep, an often missed bonus of owning a 1990's Ducati Monster or SS is the parts interchangeability between them.

The early carbie incarnation of the "S" appeared in 1999, or maybe a couple of years earlier?
It had full floating front discs as Darren said, but with cast iron rotors and a carrier pattern all of it's own. I've never ever seen a pair for sale, nor on a bike in the flesh for that matter.

Not sure if front pipe ia leaking oil? I guess it's the wrong colour but I actually like it. Black would be better of course but the S is getting htf these days.
