Updated MoT guidance for LED/HID bulbs
It has been mentioned before on the forum how aftermarket LED/HID bulbs would not pass the MoT test if they were fitted in standard halogen headlamp units.
Well, from 22 March this year, that guidance has changed again. The new instructions for testers state: "Class 1 and 2 motorcycles must not be failed for the defect 'Light source and lamp not compatible'. Headlamps must comply with all other requirements of the test, and headlamp aim. The motorcycle inspection manual will be updated shortly, and the ability to select the defect within the MoT testing service will be removed." What that means in practice is that, providing the beam pattern is not affected by fitting the new bulbs - i.e. aim and beam cut off remain the same, then you should be ok. Thanks to this month's Practical Sportsbikes for highlighting that (no pun intended! ). |
