Belt Monkey tool
Anyone use one for cambelts? It looks like they are designed for Harley drive belts but I have seen them for sale on Ducati sites. There is a chain version for more normal bikes.

Don't know how well it works but I think you'd have problems getting it on to the belt?
I've got a Facom belt tension gauge that is of similar appearance but uses spring tension and it works really well and fits (just) on a Desmoquattro belt (between the cams) but I can't use it on the Monster as it physically won't fit due to the limited space available. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Facom-DM-16.../dp/B00B1C6Y60

I did wonder that it would fit but why else would they be for sale on a Ducati web site?

It looks wider than the Facom, not sure if that's just my perception though? and the Facom only just fits between the cams on my 916 Desmoquatto but I can't get it to fit anywhere on the Monster.
Maybe other models have more space?

I can understand that a device with a spring might assist in tensioning the belts but I cannot work out how the ebay one advances the cause. Do you tighten the screw and push the belt between the blades and the resulting hump in the belt equates to the correct degree of slack when it is removed? But this does not get around the issue of how tight the belt was over the pulleys before the device was installed.
Also measuring the slack in the belt (and therefore the tension) has something to do with where it is measured i.e in the middle between the two pulleys or close to the pulleys where the teeth on the belt are constrained from moving by the teeth on the pulley. What am I missing? |
