Oil cooler hoses

Hello everyone
It would appear I have oil weeping from where the braided hose goes into the lower fitting from the oil cooler. I’ve checked the fittings at the cooler and they are dry so, does this happen with these hose or have I been unlucky?

I think it's quite common, my 916 had a similar leak which, in the end only a new hose stopped it.

The later style hose fittings with the 2 'O' rings are much better.

You'll find the price of new oil lines to be quite salty, but make the call anyway so you know.

I would try bolstering up the connection with a bit of carefully applied PTFE tape, making absolutely sure that tape cannot obstruct the oilway. A little on the nipple threads too.

If you're going to replace the lines, why not shop around for a pair of HyperMotard lines?
They both go in front of the starter motor and up to the cooler via the left hand side of the motor/frame, look a lot tidier and make belt changes a lot easier.
They will also be of the later type with O-rings on the spigot, which DukeDesmo mentioned.
You will have to also change the nipples in the engine and cooler though.

You can take the lines off with the bike on the side stand without losing too much oil, but get ready to catch some anyway.

And that would still probably work out cheaper than the new Ducati ones, look to be better quality too. I guess he could make some Hypermotard style ones for you?

Are you sure it's just not the o ring between the hose coupling and the spigot that's failed? I've noted as Dukedesmo said that the later ones have 2 o-rings so obviously it was a weakness with just the one. I think if you order new ones they will come with the 2 o-ring setup anyway and new spigots, the other earlier part numbers are now discontinued.

The older style have no 'O' rings, they are a tapered aluminium fitting and have a tendency to leak once they've been apart a few times (at least the ones on my 916 are).

The 'O' ring versions are far better but I'm not sure when they brought them in or if they even made them for the original Monster?

Looking on the Stein Dinse site, the 2 o-ring versions are listed for the later model 900ie. The earlier ones appear to have just one o-ring and appear to have been replaced by the later versions with the newer spigot included in the deal.

I've had 4 Ducati now including some earlier 750 and 900SS and I've never had one fail, touch wood.

Thanks for all your info fella’s, where the leak is coming front there is no o ring just a metal to metal joint, I’m taking them off today and have been recommended someone who lives 25 miles away who can make them up so I will let you all know how I get on.

Quick update, just spoken to moto rapido, the originals are available and both come in at £243 inc vat from Ducati and being a member here gets me 10% off that price. They have superseded part numbers so potentially are updated with o rings.

Told you they would be a bit salty! Is that for a pair or each?

The AN-6 type fittings that you have, don't have O-rings as you have seen, so if the new ones have O-rings it will be a complete update to the later design, which also requires new nipples in the engine and cooler.
The AN-6 and O-ring types don't interchange.

Presumably the lines you are having made are AN-6 type?

That's for the pair and tomorrow with the originals in my mitts I will find out what's available and if I have to change the fittings in the engine and oil cooler. In all fairness the bike is 28 this year and in the 10 years we have had her it's only been service items and second pair of tyres which were fitted this week, so factoring in the small cost to large amounts of fun even if we have to go with lines from Ducati we're happy😊
