LED replacement licence plate light.

Can anyone recommend an aftermarket LED licence plate light. Replacement for part no. 52510042A?

This one: https://www.stein-dinse.biz/product_...ducts_id=48819

Ideally would like aluminium LED type that would fit without further modification. IIRC I think bolt centres are 46mm.

Thanks

a couple of these?
https://evotech-performance.com/prod...late-light-kit
they do a couple of other types but one has the wrong spacing, the other doesn’t list it (but they’re always helpful on email/phone)

Ah, good call Rob, I hadn't seen those type. That's definitely an option. I was looking at one of the rectangular Evotech ones on Ebay but it said it fits Evotech tail tidy only, so I figured the spacing would be out. But now I come to think of it I could make an L bracket and drill it to suit. Providing the spacing was wider than the studs under the carbon tea tray.

I'm guessing that you would also like to get rid of the angled bracket that the std light fixes to ...?
I did this in my 750 and I used an led light unit from a panigale.
The fixing holes on the led unit are closer together than the fixing points in the teatray (curvy type, 3-bolt fixing) but I made a simple, flat adaptor piece from a piece of black plastic sheet, about 3mm thick.
The end result is really neat.
Sorry, I know photos would be helpful but I have no camera.

In case you're interested ....
Hole centres on my teatray (for the original bracket) look to be about 72mm.
Hole centres on the panigale led unit are about 28mm and the unit itself is about 47mm wide and 14mm thick.
Perhaps you could get a pic of the led unit off a parts listing somewhere ..?

I hadn't really considered getting rid of the bracket altogether but I had spotted some angled carbon fibre strip that I could use to make a new one. I'm just wondering if one of those Evotech LEDS would be bright enough on its own, having 2 is more wires and plugs etc so not as neat as I would like. I will have a look at the Panigale light (I'm assuming it has holes rather than studs. I could then use some carbon fibre sheet which I already have to make an adapter strip as you describe. Yea pics would have been nice though.

Yes, the panigale led unit has holes, not studs.
On closer inspection they are actually threaded, M4.

I’ve got one of the ‘thimble’ ones on one of my bikes, it’s not very bright but it passes MOTs ok. Of course a pair would leave a hole from the original wiring in the centre unless you make a blanking plate.

All good suggestions guys. I'm torn between the two atm, so will deliberate for a while over it and see if I can decide which way to go. On the one hand the single Evotech LED would be neater and discreeter and if one on its own would be bright enough that could be the way to go even though it means fabricating a bespoke bracket for it, the Panigale light would be ok too, but I'm guessing it is still a chunk of black plastic at the end of the day and I would still have to fabricate a plate for it. For the time being I have bought some T5 LED bulbs that I'm hoping will fit the standard unit. There's only 1 x 5W bulb in the light and no reflector so maybe the single Evotech LED would be ok? I might email them and see what they say.

I run LED number plate screws inside the light on mine and have done for some time, they're similar to the evotech one but only a couple of quid for 2 from the bay of E. I drilled a couple of small holes in the bottom of the reflector inside the light to fit them and they can't be seen.

They're quite bright and have passed a number of MoTs like that.

I am doing something similar on the Mito but they'll be outside of the light, probably just replacing the top number plate screws...

Having had a look on ebay most would seem to be cheap Chinese ones that don't appear to be water proof. I did find a UK seller for these which look decent quality:-

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TWO-MOTOR...sAAOSwzrZejHcS

This looks like a quality item :-

https://www.bikermart.co.uk/Black-Al...Light-E~marked

Will have to check if 32mm bolt spacing could work.

Just my opinion but the panigale led unit looks much smaller and neater than either of those options.
In fact once fitted you can't see it at all unless you crouch on the floor and look underneath the teatray.
And obviously, being std oem equipment, its effective function is assured.
Dunno how much they cost though .. I got mine as part of a complete secondhand tail unit that I bought just for the led indicators.

edit .. ah, too late I see.

Ba ba ra ra cu cu da da.

I haven't got a licence plate but I have to illuminate my number plate, or registration plate for the MOT.

I just bunged some LEDs on with some double sided glazing tape.
Weighs about a hundredth of the original clod of metal, twice as bright and a current draw you can hardly measure.... And cost nothing.

No, not "have" painted. I prepped and clear lacquered all the carbon, Mudguard, hugger and teatray.
You have to get that perfect and free from pinholes. Then mask up the stripes and add up to 10% of the desired basecoat to the lacquer in the gun, in this case the same Gold as the wheels.
Then spray on light coats until the opacity is at the desired level.. Tricky! I aim to still be able to see the carbon weave through the coloured lacquer.
Then de-mask and clear lacquer over the whole thing for the last time.
If you want to see carbon painted to absolute ultimate cool, take a look at Capo's tank.
I'm planning on buying a carbon helmet and having a play along similar lines.

Sorry for the hijack Darren.
