Deposit paid on 696+, sould be here in time for next weekend. Will have to hold off a little longer however, I've got my test a week Monday!

Can't help thinking that being a new rider I'm not going to fully appreciate it - what the hell!

good luck with ya test,its an excellent bike but it is still very quick for a new rider,just becareful as this bike wants to go all the time,it certainly is a licence loser.

SW London - already booked two weeks off work following my test, aiming to get my first service in within that time - what a chore. :-)

Any favourite routes within reasonable distance of London gratefully received...

Hi and welcome to the club!

I'm the West London rep with Slob covering the East. I'm organising a meet for this Saturday but am sure there will be others you can meet fellow Ducatisti when you pass your test.

One of my favourites from SW is to head towards Reigate (Junction 8) and then take any of the backroads from there.

Another one is to head along A4/M4 for a bit - turn off at junction for Henley on Thames.

You're dead right - I know it's not the most sensible thing in the world - but I'm 26 years old and have worked bloody hard in the last 10 years, I now find myself in a position where I'm earning a decent whack, am single and have plenty of spare time (comparatively).

I'm damned if I'm not going to make the most of it....

Aah - R&G's - I see.

Just how effective are they? What damage would I expect if I dropped my bike at say 0mph?

Never one to turn down some good advice - where do I buy a pair? Are they easy to fit to a 696?

At 0mph with crash bungs probably just a few scratches on brake/clutch lever and tiny indents on bar ends/crash bungs from tarmac and one very low forehead from the embarassment. Maybe a broken clutch/brake lever at worst.

Without crash bungs - possibly dent to frame/main bodywork. Would be one of my first purchases.

Can pick up R&G from most dealers/online shops but might as well try direct first off - http://www.rg-racing.com/

Was easy for my 620ie - comes with "non-ikea" instructions.

the big engine bolt replacing bungs will save your tank and frame in a slide.
They do however mean something else will get damaged instead.
So you should probably get fork sliders and swing arm sliders too.
Longer bar ends will save your brake levers.

Dont forget to get good gear for yourself too.

I'm not saying that you will fall off. but if you do you want to make sure you and your bike get off as lightly as possible.

Just passed my test too and also splashed out 6 grand on a new 696 as my first bike. I love it - sounds like its chewing on a bag of nails. Thanks for the R&G advice, I'd better go and get myself some of those!

btw - does anyone know if there any decent aftermarket saddles for this bike yet, the brakes are a bit more effective than I'm used to and I would like to have children one day!!
