First Ducati...
Hello there
I’m just in the process of purchasing my 1st Ducati and have chosen the 797 monster , and was wondering if it’s as good as it looks ,I’ve been riding for over 40 years ,not a big believer in all out power makes a good bike ,just looking For the smile factor . Mark |

Virtually the same motor as my S2R, just euro reg strangled.
Nice choice to start with and I imagine quite easy to steal back 5+bhp though I doubt if you'd really notice it but some judicious tweaks will give you a much smoother ride and better power delivery. They're all good fun bikes, LOL but wouldn't we all say that here Nowhere near as buzzy as a Japanese 4 motor but very engaging to ride and honestly a bit under rated by many. You aren't going to win too many drag races against similar capacity multi's and you will be down on top end which means you have to ride the bike and not just blindly nail the throttle. Think sympatico Having said that my other Ducati can hit 70 in about 3.5 seconds and is pushing 100+ in a sliver over 5 and the GPS data for the top end (I bottled before the rev limiter kicked in) was a bit more than was healthy for life, limb and licence

i ride its older cousin the 750 with only 5 gears and love them ,, the 797 has more HP and 6 gears so its gotta be good with a bit of fiddlin to release it from euro 5 prison

Like Jerry, I ride the earlier M750.
Now, I might be unusual in my attitude but for me its all the bike I'll ever need. Had it for 15yrs now and it still ,makes me grin. On the right kind of roads its faster than I am. Its a keeper for absolute certain. Its my only road bike too .. it doesn't sit in the garage alongside anything else other than a trailie thumper for the winter. And I too have been riding for over 40yrs. Welcome along and enjoy the ride. |

Hello and welcome.
I agree with you, and some of the most fun I've had has been on 'smaller' bikes, not all of which were mine. I had a 696+ for a while, which I believe has similar output to a 797. It was the lowest powered bike I've ever owned but it was loads of fun! I do have to say that the novelty factor of chucking a small light bike around did wear off after about a year so I bought the evo instead, but if you're happy with the 797 that's all that counts.
