Greetings From Darkest Cornwall

Hi,
Just re-joined the ranks of owning a Ducati after a few years. 1st proper motorbike was a Ducati 250 single, closely followed by a 350 Ducati Desmo Racer - show my age as it is now over fourty years ago! Unfortunaltely the bottom end went on the 350 so I ended up on a Morini 3 1/2 for a couple of years and then reverted to 4 wheels. A few years ago, the insurance company reckon about a decade agao, I came back to biking, Bandit then (current) a Fazer 1000. On Friday, 8th October I revert to a Ducati, brand new 796 with ABS. I'm looking forward to the noise and feel of a Ducati after all thse years.
I do belong to a local Motorcycle club, Noth Cornwall Motor Cycle Club based in Tintagel and not only have supported their fund raising but gone on one or two of their expeditions to Wales. Problem witht he bike rides I'm the oldest and slowest, but I get there.
Any hints, tips to re-owning a Duc will be appreciated.
Safe riding out there.

Hello and welcome. I too have very fond memories of the 3 1/2, and also that part of Cornwall from my St.Mawgan days. I would suggest you become acquainted with ACF50 knowing how corrosive the air down there is..

LOL Weren't the 250/350 singles fun though Graham, the mains did tend to self destruct with monotonous regularity though. You'll see people here from time to time saying the clutches are heavy, think back and nawwwww!!
Enjoy the new toy

Yes the 3 1/2 was a great bike, problem was then I didn't know how to balance/tune the carbs, nor did the dealer. Handling was great, I was sorry to have to sell her to et a car.

I have a LARGE tub of the stuff in my garage, one problem with it (hardly) that it didn't preservet he paint on my old Yamaha's engine, but yes it will be used liberally.

I'll have to get used to these quick replies.
Wish I'd known then about the rate the singles went through bottom ends, and valve guides, it would have saved me a lot of grief and money. Problem was when she was going she was great. Another factor was the 6v ignition and lighting . I converted to 12v and as I had 'decent' lighting had to lead the then London Ducati Club as i could see where I was going.
I suppose it could be considered 'the days' as loud exhauste were the fashion. Mind you memory does play tricks on us all as we seem to forget the unpleasant parts (hopefully).

new belt

hi everyone, only recently joined as i only got my monster last wednesday. Anyway the thing i wanted to ask was does any one know the best place to get a replacement belt for my N Reg 600 monster? The guy i bought it off had recently had it serviced and the mechanic had said to him that the belt looked fine but im thinking of replacing it anyway just for my own piece of mind and so that i know when it was last done. Perhaps im being a bit of fanny but like i said at least i know then when it will need changing again! Id appreciate any input any of you guys have out there, ive only been riding the past year and this is my first "BIG" bike so i am still finding my feet with it. Cheers and ill look forward to any of your replies.

It was a bit of a nack, but I did it so many times that eventually it was easy. Raise idle to 2500rpm on screws, adjust pilot setting to give fastest idle, set throttle stop screws to balance at normal idle speed and lastly match freeplay in throttle cables so slides lifted evenly to keep balance at high rpm. The dellorto's got worse as they wore out too, making fettling all the more regular. That bike did over 60000 miles and never needed a major engine rebuild.

welcome to UKMOC
