Mystery bars

Does anyone recognise these bars? I bought them a fair while back from the US for a project, was told they were recent-ish Monster...

And did you mean to show all of the photos in the album?

They don't look like any Monster bars I've ever seen, but I suppose they could fit a Monster if you wanted to convert to clip ons. Are they 50mm clamps?

The only Monster I can think of with that style of bar is the S4, but they appear different?

Thanks, yes those are a little different though unfortunately.

Does anyone know if that type of mounting for the bar end weights is a typical Ducati thing nowadays? I haven't got the weights and the mounting is kinda unusual.

It used to be metal wedges, but for some time it has been rubber top hat inserts with a brass nut at the inner end so that the compression from the fitting screw makes the rubber swell and hold the weight on.

These are different to that- the end of the bar is threaded and a cap with a hole in it screws into that. Inside the bar goes a heavy weight and a rubber sleeve (which presumably expands when pulled up tight with whatever the bar end weight is) over a rod that comes out through the cap , but is otherwise a pretty loose fit in the bars. They seem very well made.

If the bars can be rotated around so the small eyelet is at the top then they could possibly fit an S4, the eyelets being for mounting the instrument pod. The ST2/4 also has the same arrangment.

As for the weird bar ends; the S4/ST bars are solid and threaded and the weight screws into the end with an M6 bolt so maybe the ends are for bar end mirrors is all I can think of?

Just FYI, the ST2/4 doesn't have bars anything like that: I should know because I used to make spacers for them! They clamp onto the top yoke and have nothing to do with the instruments or the stanchions/tubes.

yea, sorry for the confusion I meant the bars are similar not the same although they are mounted to the top plate in the same way and look similar.

I suppose the eyelet wouldn't hurt anything being there if you did fit them to the ST. I suppose the main difference is the ST clocks don't move with the handlebars like a Monster, but are instead mounted on a sub-frame in the headlight cowl.

Thanks for pointing that out Nick, I had read of people swapping ST and Monster S4 bars over as they maybe a little higher or lower.

The eyelet lines up with a hole in the underside of the top yoke, Presumably to stop the bars moving around the fork legs if the clamp bolts aren't done up tight enough. Interesting idea on the bar end mirrors too.

These are quite a mystery anyway.

Ok, well that rules out the S4 idea then? They are certainly rare/unique and I think maybe missing some crucial parts for the bar ends?

Good thinking that they are missing something. In the photo, halfway down the dismantled inner bit rests an o-ring- although it is around the right size for the bar-end there isn't any groove or anything for it to go in, so maybe there is stuff missing.

Also, the end design isn't really like a bar-end weight mount, it's a bit over engineered for that too. I wonder if they are the mounting for wrap-around guards, and are off something like a Multistrada.
