Hello

Hi all,

I'm not currently a Monster owner, but had a sudden urge to have a nice shiny plaything to sit alongside, and as a contrast to, my current 11 year old VFR. Much deliberation led me to the conclusion that a Monster would be the perfect foil.

To that end, i'll be spending many (hopefully) happy hours perusing these pages to find out as much as possible about them, and which models to consider.

Cheers,
Steve

PS. Are there any obvious forum pitfalls I have to avoid (mentioning that I own a Honda , for example). I wouldn't want to cause any unintentional offence / hilarity ...

Welcome Steve, I wouldn't mention politics (desperately dull), technical stuff (even duller) or football (My God I'm practically asleep).

Please cause as much intentional/unintentional hilarity as you like!

Maybe see you about this fine city.

Oh dear, admitting VFR love seems a bad thing ...

Not sure which model, with a budget of £4k i'm hoping for a low-mileage 2005 / 2006 S2R or 2007 M695.

I have all summer and autumn to dwell on the options, with the intention to buy "out of season" (ie. when the last remnant of my divorce debt is paid off) ready for next year.

I'm sure you'll find something.

By the way, I've got an Honda too so take no notice of that lot!

Sshh ... you'll get banished.

At the risk of starting a bunfight, given a £4k budget, which Monster would you guys recommend as a summer, dry weather only, plaything?

3 years on a CX500, 1 year on a CBX750 (*spit*), 3 years on a Bandit 600, 2 years VFR750 and 7 years on the VFR800fi.

Now I want something that can stick two fingers up to a mate's Tuono ...

Welcome to the friendliest forum in the world...and a very wise choice in bikes...funny, my Monster-buying also coincided with divorce debt-paying off hahaha

Have to say that the injected 900 or 1000 would be my motor of choice - I love my 900ie and it never fails to make me smile despite it now being nearly 8! The S2R 800 however would probably be just as much fun and there are a nice few trick bits on there too...

Happy hunting for the bike of choice - I gave up a blackbird then a fireblade to come over to the side of the twin and have never looked back in nearly 10 years of owning a Ducati

Welcome to the forum, you'll get loads of smiles, on here and on the bike when you get it. Tother half has a Fazer thou but takes my dinky 600 out for a blast and comes back with silly grin every time. They just make you smile, especially when you beat most other bikes on corners! There's no probs with the VFR our mate has one and he loves it. I don't think it matters what you ride as long as it goes!
If you see a tiny 600 with a red, black and white tank, wave!

For that much you should be able to pic up a nice 1000DS Monster which is a cracking bike (I'm not too biased... see mine here - http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=32074 ) They are a bit few and far between but definitely worth it. An 800 S2R is a good choice, very capable and easy to ride. Personally I'd steer clear of a four valver S4 for service costs etc and a decent 1000DS makes about the same power

CX500? Nasty.....

To be honest you're gonna struggle against a Tuono in terms or raw horsepower unless you're looking at an S4RS Testastretta and if you find one for 4 grand that looks ok, it's a bargin!!!

Oh, and welcome to the UKMOC!
