Ok guys, back on it.

Started her up this week for the 1st time in 7 years!!
Ran rough as Feck!! Oil pouring out of oil cooler/carb heater pipe junction (only tightened hand tight by some berk!!) and petrol pissing out of carb overflow pipes.
1st thoughts - carbs dry for 7 years = floats sticking
Stripped down carbs again, checked and cleaned both floats and blew through everywhere with the airline. All seemed OK.
Reassembled and fired it up but petrol still pouring out of both overflows.

Any ideas? Where should I look next?

Cheers

Well, my instinct says that if fuel is flowing from the floatbowl overflow pipe then the float valve has to be leaking, despite your previous cleaning.
The only other thing I can think of is that you have some pipes connected up wrongly and the fuel is actually flowing from somewhere else.
Both seem unlikely but maybe not impossible.
In the latter case, this could perhaps be compounded by a perished diaphragm in the fuel tap, causing it to remain open ... which would not be surprising after 7 yrs as rumour has it that they don't like drying out.

All the above is a tad tenuous though.
Does fuel flow from the overflow when the engine isn't running ?

Float heights incorrectly set or float valves not sealing? Check your cylinders aren't filling with fuel or it could all go bang, literally and in a fairly major way!

Utopia - no fuel overflowing when engine not running - i will check fuel tap diaphragm.

Darren - checked and OK

Am i right in thinking that the fuel is pumped to the carbs continuously when the engine is running? if so fault must be with floats/float height/float valve not shutting off incoming flow when carb bowls fill up. - Does that make sense?

Will recheck all over the weekend - pilot error being my favourite bet for this!!

The only reason I have not made the same mistake with mine is because I don't have carbs! Oh well it sounds like you are making progress!

OK back on the case - Cancer gone away (So far!!(Yahoo!!))

List of outstanding jobs:-

1. Make bracket to hold new mini speedo
1a. Organise new longer speedo drive cable
1b. Speedo drive - wheel end, what stop wheel end cable drive turning with the wheel other than the speedo drive cable?

2. Make new number plate holder v2 ( v1=sh*te)
2a. Probably water jet/laser cut to suit then powder coated

3. Sort out seat fixing
3a. order more fibre glass supplies
3b. get captive nuts welded to plate to glass into seat

4. Get seat upholstered (www.chaoscustom.co.uk)

5. New chain + sprockets (geared for wheelies!!)

6. Front indicators (thinking bar ends or wrap around top of forks LED)

7. Make brakes work after 7 years (splitting old Brembos........dodgy!!)

8. Make clutch work after 7 years

9. Make carbon fibre effect sprocket cover from naff grey plastic cover.

9. MOT

Will be asking lots of silly questions to sort out all the above - thanks to all you Ducati Bros in advance for all the help I will pester you for.

Quality kit, I’m just a little bit tight (careful with money) and the SS was my first complete rebuild.

For picture hosting I am using Flickr at the moment.

I take it you looked through the SS pictures? Only two ladies were pictured on the SS.
