I don't know whether the air could go into solution in the brake fluid at higher pressure or not, but I have experienced similar effects in water (due to heat and/or pressure) in a previous employment testing and developing valves. But assuming that it could, then could it be that the air is then free to mix throughout the entire fluid in the system, rather than being trapped in little nooks and crannies, high spots etc.......? If so, on releasing the pressure, some of this dissolved air will now reappear in places where its easier to bleed out. ........??? Just a thought. Then again, although it is claimed to work, I've never really needed to use it much myself so I couldn't say. But it is a widely held claim. Personally, I might be inclined to remove the clutch slave cylinder from the cases and hold it higher than the master cyl, so the air can rise to the top more easily, then bleed it in that position. Careful with that lovely new paint though. |

It always struck me as the obvious thing to do...taking the slave off and raising it up. same applies to the rear brake caliper.
Be aware that you can shoot the piston out though. Best to put a cramp over the whole lot with some wood or something as a cushion....Or in the case of the brake, a bit of ply or summat in between the pads.... |

Syringe (correct spelling?) full of clean fluid onto the nipple at the bottom. Fill system from the bottom up, it will prove full when you start filling the clutch res'. Don't squeeze the lever while you do this as you'll block the hole, and take care as it will probably squirt out quite keenly and cover some distance when the line is full. Wlonce the line is full then bleed from the nipple as normal.
It's a tad faffy but works well. |

Some people were mentioning it on a thread a few weeks back but sodded if I can find it now. I know Slob chipped in and perhaps DrD as well? Don't think the thread was about the cooler though, was a side convo but I'm not sure. I'll have another look later

rode to work this morning and found a big oil leak coming out of my rear cylinder,Ive just changed the oil but dont know why that would make any difference.
How big a job is it to change the rear cylinder gasket ? ok just done a search its the base gasket or a buggered o ring ? Last edited by perkles; 14-03-2014 at 07:40 AM.. |
