to the uninitiated, both pipes will feel pretty damn warm even when one cylinder has gone down

Couldnt believe how hot a clutch slave gets after a ride taking it off to check a front sprocket. Just shows how much heat goes into the fluid.

Bad news! Vertical cylinder not firing. Thanks all!

Checked the pick up coil and got an open circuit. The horizontal was 100 ohms. Wiring looks ok!

Does this happen to people ever?! Whats the best thing to do?

Do you mean the HT coils?

I know he's got some CDI units. Maybe he has coils too? He'd be a good person to ask as he's sorting through the late Darkness's bikes and parts.

Evnin guys

I do have some Genuine IC ignitors off my old M900 that I converted to an Ignitech system, but I don't think I have any coils, I might get a chance to have a look tomorrow.

I've not seen any in Mark's stash either, but am hoping to have a better sort through it all very soon as the bikes are being collected tomorrow which will leave room to look at the parts.

I mean the pick up coil inside the left crank case. The manual explains how to check them with a multimeter. I checked the ignition coils and they are ok.

Just not sure why it suddenly stopped working!

Presume the pickups are still available from Ducati?

I know Ignitech sell them; https://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/a...up/pick-up.htm and IME their products are very good, at least the programmable ignition as mentioned above by Nasher. I've had one on my M900 since I got it and it's been faultless, plus can alter the advance to suit the tuning work, still running with the original pickups though.

Cheers Duke! Will have a look...ducati are 200 quid plus as you have to buy the whole loom with the 2 pick up coils.

Anyone know if the stator cover has a gasket? Or just liquid gasket?

Mine both have 'Threebond' liquid gasket but even if a gasket was fitted originally, you can do away with it and use threebond.

Thanks Nasher!

I'm in the Netherlands though. I have found a company that makes the full wiring loom with the 2 pick up coils so will order that.

2 (possibly stupid) questions:

- Do i need a puller to remove the left crankcase like the manual says?
- Do I need to drain oil first?

Yes. Use the puller to pop the cover off.
Also remove the clutch slave and find the cover screw that nestles behind it in a recess. It might be hidden by chain goo, so wash down and make sure you find and remove it or you'll bust the cover when you apply the puller. (You won't be the first though!)

If you're doing this on the side stand you will need to drain most of the oil.
On a paddock stand you might get away with it, but probably lose some when the cover pops, so you might as well drop a pint or so out, but not the whole lot as I imagine it's fresh oil you have in there?
