My final comment on the GOAT\Rossi thing... Read Mat Oxley in the March issue of Bike, where he talks about the future of MotoGP without Rossi. It's interesting stuff.
There are suggestions that the following of MotoGP will fall by 20 - 30% after he retires, such is his popularity, and that's a bad deal for sponsors etc. which potentially could mean less money for the sport. It's all speculation of course, but I'm not really in a position to dispute what Oxley is saying or where he gets his information from. It takes more than wins to make somebody 'great'. And like it or not, nobody else's participation has ever had such a global imact on this sport, whether it's the number of titles, number of fans, popularity, economics, whatever. Can that be sensibly disputed? |

The point was that Iannone and his girlfriend are subject to a hell of a lot more hysterical tabloid coverage due to her celebrity than Rossi and Linda were.

Ah ok. Not really comparable to the G.O.A.T.s fame though, I can't see ianone counting his t shirt income in terms of £millions because of who he,s shagging

Probably the most deserving non champ on the grid. Last couple of years he has been a shadow of his former self. I'd be happy to just see him win a few races and get more regular podiums.
9 winners last year. Do we think it will settle down this year or are we in for a similar number of shock wins? |

Hmmm... Not sure I agree with that sentiment. I like Dani a lot, but it's like when you hear about all the kids at the school sports day getting prizes, when the reality is that some kids just aren't quite good enough to win (or there are others who are better, whichever way you look at it), or are maybe they're just a bit too fragile!
I mean, races, absolutely all day long, but if he had what it takes to win a championship he would have done it already. |
