no one NEEDS more power than the 1200.

I think there will be a lot of people looking at this bike if the footpeg issue is fixed and handling sharpened up... again... Not sure it was exactly blunt before but a few people recently have preferred the 821 based the handling.

As every though, it's going to come down to price.

It's interesting they mention the redesigned frame given it was sluggish on steering, which is something I didn't like about it... the power was awesome (Although I actually preferred the more raw feeling of power in my old S4Rs), but it is a heavy bike so if they've sharpened up the steering should be a much improved ride.

Somehow I can't see me getting a 4th bike in the garage next year, but wouldn't mind taking one out for a demo...

EDIT: Oh, and black ohlins... mmmmm *rubs thighs*

Does it come with a pair of carbon exoskeletons for your arms, to stop them stretching ?
And a neckbrace ?

I guess you need a bit of extra oomph to carry all the plumbing though.

Its the same old story really ....high bhp figures sells bikes.
Light weight is more valuable in my book, but that doesn't attract the punters so well.
I can still remember how awesome the evo-engined, NCR one-shot felt, with its std (aircooled) motor and 140kg weight .....and that was just stationary, in the carpark !!

That said, I'm not complaining.
I'm glad that bike designers continue to build ever more extreme bikes.
But they're not for me.

Give it 2/3 years and nakeds will have 200+BHP. Top end Superbikes are all over that figure now and the engines will eventually filter down the range. It's only the electronics that make them rideable on the road, switch off the TC/Anti-wheelie and they become almost unrideable (at least if you open the throttle up to the max).

I've always found 90-110bhp to be more than adequate for my needs. That said I'm still pleased that bike manufacturers have the freedom to produce engines with no restriction on output.

Surprised that they used the existing 1200 engine and made it Euro 4 compliant rather than using the DVT engine. It definitely saved having to totally redesign the bike around the DVT engine. It also means that they can almost certainly make the Diavel Euro 4 compliant with its existing engine. So I guess it will be a few more years before more Ducatis get DVT engines.

Not sure I agree with that comment Rob. 2v 1100 engine vs 2v 1100 engine with vacum cast engine is 5kg saving.

5kg saving is more then enough to cover 2kg of ABS, 200cc increase and most of not all of RBW/TC.

New monster also has lighter sub-frame and lighter main frame then old s4rs monster.
I am quite certain it has lighter loom due to cumbus (how ever you call it), lighter rims and suspension components.

Quite possibly lighter tank.

Frankly good comparison as to how much lighter it all became is between Monster 695 and Monster 696. Both use cheaper components and yet we have 7kg saving out of box.

Got to say if I'd read that and not seen any pictures, I'd be almost wanting one, unfortunately it looks like a bag of excreta, and at £15k!!!! by the time replacements had been found for all the hideous bits another 5k could easily disappear, this will not be on my shopping list any time soon

Im with kato

Just like the 1290 superduke it needs another 5 grand thrown at it.

Will stick with my sorted 1100 evo for the next couple of years at least.

Have ridden the 821 (gutless revbox) and 1200S (overweight sofabed that turns like a supertanker) neither feel like twins to me sorry guys.
