The stand is actually more a pair of Legs.
I think I was just lucky to find them being sold secondhand on Ebay just as I was going to make a stand. They are not as sturdy as a full stand, and before I use them again I'll add some 45deg stays and bolt in cross pieces. They will of course be far easier to store when not in use than a welded up stand, hence I'll be welding on brackets to bolt in the cross pieces. Nasher

Starting to paint
The paint for the engine arrived today on advice from Dookbob. Seeing as it was a nice evening and with limited time before the garden area becomes a no spray area I started on the bottom end. Masked it up and done the VHT silver. The side casings will be sprayed with the wheel silver and lacquered over.
I am not sure whether to leave the heads raw as they look so nice unpainted. Need some thinking time on them. Tomorrow will do the side casings. One is on the engine the clutch side and the other alternator side is now removed. I still have to make an engine stand even for after painting as is more important then.

Small steps being taken on painting. Nearly done other than a couple of light coats on the clutch casing side needed. I fear I could not remove this casing as Dookbob did on his but maybe its easier on a wet clutch case.
The alternator side I have done so as had to be removed for starter motor fitting. Engine stand should be made for me by weekend to keep it safe off the ground. Barrels done just a few pieces of paint needing removal on gasket surfaces. Clutch cover will have the Agip Oil decal applied if I can find it not a Shell one. Alternator cover. Have the original domed slotted screws ready for this one. This week and the weekends work ( if decent weather ) should be other than engine paint, the footrest hangers removed of all parts and then keyed back on front faces and sprayed with the silver and lacquered over the silver powdercoat. Why you may ask ! Because theres a couple of specks in the finish I don't like and would like them with painted finish and I think the silver has a little bit of chromium colour to it whilst still being ok. Now getting to the point of going to have to order complete engine gaskets set and oil seals for starter motor, gear shaft output and primary output possibly. More updates when I can..

Just a little more work but a benefit to me is now the engine is off the ground safe. I made an engine stand and this is MKII as MKI would have been too high off the deck and needed complicated brackets drilling and or welding to the pipe. This one is stable and will not tip and made from industrial electrical conduit. It also just uses the rear engine points with M10 treaded bar 300mm long.
At the moment its just dry assembled no starter no clutch plates no pistons just to prove its ok. Now I just need to respray that clutch cover again as its not the right shade now as done 2 years ago and has a slight chip too.. Oil level plate is being restored as in being blacked out again around the letters by an artist friend with detail brush. Needed now my list belts clutch plates brake pads full gasket set gasket seal for starter motor oil seal gear change belt adjuster bearings x 4 clutch pressure plate bearing

Thanks all. Clutch cover been stripped back and repainted tonight. Alloy one not steel plate. Looking a bit better than before and horn has also been done again and better finish and colour.
Ordered the front fork seals and got a good deal on them and the bushes too so should be as good as possible once I can decide what grade oil to put in. Upgrade or standard grade ? Hoping front forks back on over the weekend.

Been busy putting engine together dry fit for proteam to service fit out in summer asap so making sure all is there and fits.
Sub assembly plated parts on sprocket hub carrier too starter motor fitted belt covers etc and painted oil cooler and drying curing nicely in this summer heat.

Got them replated. You can replate rubber lines if they have braid over. XT 500 lines were done when I saw my mate do his. Plater knows his job.
