If you really want to know how much you can get out of a tankful (assuming your fuel tank is crud free inside) bungee a (full) gallon petrol can onto the back seat after your trip is showing a hundred-ish miles and ride until it runs out of fuel.

Yeah I'm not that keen to know! Just wanted a good fill up indicator. Will call it 200km is a good time to start looking for a pump.
I don't really understand why more different bikes use different amounts of fuel at the same speed?! Is the MT10 using all that extra fuel just to turn a more powerful engine over and make noise like a tuned F16?! |

There's just so much difference in the way that motors work, take a water/oil cooled mill that can run really lean and loose the heat in the coooling system, or one that looks similar that runs a bit richer or a monsters that run a bit lean in one place and rich at another ... Then chuck in how its ridden, a 2T that that's ragged at 30 and a bit MPG (screaming expansion bliss0 or even the same 4T ridden on the torque curve or ridden on the power curve.
I had a Kwak KDX go trail riding and you could get 50mpg, take it racing (pukka championshiop class level) and youd'd be hitting 30's. My tuned LC350 and TZR 250 could sip util you hit the throttle. Even your MT10 example, ride the torque and your shifting at 8K, ride the power and it's more like 9K, big difference in the fuel it drinks. It's what you do with what you've got, how you use it. An R1 can be a full on race rep or a round the world touring pussy cat (see Nick Sanders). It's all down to you

Think you're looking at 120 miles to a tank, then look for a petrol station ...providing you're not riding it flat to the throttle stop everywhere......
