If it started ok when you shorted the solenoid then it may be an issue with the plug that feeds into the solenoid via the start buttton or the button itself. It's a poor quality connector and not very weather proof and the wire is prone to breakage at the headstock too sometimes or so I have heard. My money is on the block connector since that is always weak.

solved ... all the wiring , switches and relays ok It was the solenoid , new yamaha one for £8 all ok now

Good choice. Glad you got it sorted. I fitted a Honda CB Superdream starter solenoid on my Laverda 1200 Mirage which cost me about £5 and thinking it wouldn't be able to cope but its been fine. It actually starts easier than the S4 does.
