hello

...or you could go for something like that has obviously been lovingly completely rebuilt.

I did spot this bad boy

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Mon...item2a30e08a9e

I have one very similar and they are a great fun bike but probably often the unloved model in the monster range,so good value for money. 916 power and with full Termignoni more torque than the superbike !

Well I think the s/h prices reflect the fact that the S4 was not as desirable as an original M900. Why pay 2k for a 20year old bike when you can get a 10year old bike for 2.5K. I think the fact that the S4 had less sleek lines that the old air cooled 2b valve has a lot to do with it. Ironic since the original prototype that Galuzzi built was with a 4 valve liquid cooled 888 engine! It was only because the factory didn't have any but but couldn't sell many 900ss and so had lots of 900ss engines lying around that they used those instead.

So in answer to the previous post, it is likely that the very first batch did indeed have the original 900ss engines

I have got the 900 bug
But looks like il be doing more with the 600.
I wanted one to leave as it was apart from the obvious lowering mod my stumpy legs need .
I wanted one to just leave be and keep .

But may just end up chucking lots of bits and bobs on Hector and working with him

I'm torn between the 600/900 issue. Thing is I'm now so attached to my 600 I don't want to get rid but the extra oomph and dry clutch of the 900 mmmmm. Then again I could just keep the 600 and jump up a few levels into an S4Rs, oomph, dry clutch and single sided swing arm! Plenty of space in the garage but not many pennies in the bank though, and I want a 916 too.

Does size matter?

I am sure it is a difficult choice as I went straight in for the 900 (but only as I bought it from a friend who never really rode it) and being a bit of a Ducati anorak I love the fact the 900 was the original Il Monstro but equally I like the history behind the 600 motor (and they're not a lot slower in the real world anyway) having all that Pantah heritage.....Mmmm now a Pantah would look lovely in my garage ... or a racing Pantah would look even better....

Lack of budget was my deciding factor

I saw that 888 recently when I took my little racer up to Lincolnshire to have the exhaust made. The photos really don't do it justice and buying from eBay would be such a shame when Jon, Steve and everyone else there are so nice to chat bikes with (and they have a free coffee machine!).

They also had a lovely MH900e that I quite fancied putting in the back of my van and bringing home with me and the mosaics of the Ducati emblems in their showroom would look far better on my garage wall.
