Oh, shame. I was looking forward to a un-chopped frame thread. It's often mentioned, that the frame is gonna be chopped and shortened but they will keep the off cut bits for the next owner to re-attach should they wish. I just have never seen it done. That's all.

I wouldn't be bothered too much about originality and such like if I were you it's never gonna be concours original again. But like Rob says it's probably battery acid damage anyway, it's very common for those early bikes with the lead/acid battery and usual reg/rec failures.

That was my initial plan to have the 'beer tray' welded back on but until I find a craftsman that can make the join look invisible its better to just plug the holes up.
Also I am not married to the idea of a chopped frame so it can all change in due course

It’s usually a battery acid incident on early Monsters, left side of the frame below the tank.

Yes, that's most probably what happened as the bike has a gel battery now.

I rewelded the tea tray mounts back onto the S4 using 2 x 50mm hollow slugs inside for strength once powder coated and the Tea tray and mudgaurd is back on no visible signs of welds

Thanks for the advice @Luddite I will also use this feature for future updates of the build.

Yes, I am happy to share the information if that is fine with the rules of the forum.
The company that made the decals is called 'classicmotorcycledecals2' and they can be found on Ebay.
I have no ties or affiliation to the company, just happy with the service they provided me.
I purchased from them in the past for a previous project and was pleased with the quality of the product they supplied.

The link to their store is:

Yes, I know its up there as part of the VIN, as well but the ZDM900M silver vinyl label isnt the VIN, Isnt it whats called a homologation label.......or is that the E3 label

I think you're right - the smaller ZDM label is known as an EC nameplate and is possibly linked to the Certificate of Conformity. I don't know what the larger E3 label indicates but it may be something to do in with emissions (E3/Euro3, E4/Euro4 etc.,)

In Leon's first post, he says the label is near the headstock and his picture shows it just before the bend in the frame.

That looks like the tyre and mudguard below, which would suggest it's the left side lower frame rail between the headstock and the first upright, i.e.

But not present on my ‘93 or ‘94, nor the “new unused one”, nor the one on display at the Ducati museum?
