i've had a number of bikes for the road, Triumph ST3, 675, Yam YZF600, I continue to own a number of scooters, custom vespa, lambrettas etc. I also raced biked for quite a few years on GSXR, R1, ZX10, etc.

The Monster 1200 I have now I absolutely love. It was a bit of a gamble in my mind because I couldn't test one first but I read plenty reviews and took the plunge. First big offset twin i've had and I love it to bits. So much so I would be happy to stick with Ducati for the 'next' bike - BUT I tried the new Diavel and Streetfighter V4s and didnt enjoy the engine character as much as my current machine. The ST V2 was more comparable, but the bike almost too similar in many ways to justify the price increase. I'd have one of those tomorrow, if I didn't already have the M1200.

So i've come to the conclusion that my next bike will be an Aprilia. Although hopefully some way off yet. Sorry Ducati, but the V4 direction etc, and the huge price hike across the board for V4 and the associated tech isn't for me. Shame, but at least i arrived at the party in time for one good song.

Yes to some the Pantah was the beginning of the end apparently, forgetting of course the foibles of the bevel bikes.
I think what we're really talking about is getting older, and how great our glory days were!?

I think you've hit the nail on the head Bitza.
A lot of the comments on this thread have a strong resonance with the sort of thing you'd read in the Norton owners magazine and forum.. "We don't like change!"
What have we come to?

So for the record the first Ducati L-twin had Valve springs. I heard Emzedder start up his 750GT at the weekend. Talk about a proper bike!!

A lot of the bevels, singles and twins had valve springs, so what's all the fuss about? and who cares?
