Welcome, and go for the Monster, you get really good people on this site, loads of support as a newbie and the bike isn't too bad either! When you're confident there will be ride outs and track days to do too. The technical support is good so you could do loads to your own bike to keep cost down on servicing. Just avoid Ducati dealers there's so much you can do to your bike you'll be constantly broke!
