So far the compression has been increased, airbox modified, re flashed. It's apart at the moment, the heads have been gas flowed and the bores replated. The first mods have the engine much more torque and hp, which made the bike more ridable. Whilst I don't have the dyno figures to hand, from memory, the cup at the back wheel went Dillon low 80's to about 95! Chatting with a few guys in the state's about how far the engine can be tuned, above 110bhp, they start becoming fragile.

Some VERY nice guzzi bikes above!
I am So SO annoyed with myself… the tank has taken days to get to the right shape… I etch primed it… prefect… 2K primer… perfect… just needed flatting before the base coat. Unfortunately I went through to the bare metal on an edge… Not wanting to have to fill the gun with 2K again I used some 1K primer… As the base coat dried… the 1K primer reacted… lesson learned!

I’m sure that I read something about the fragility of the MG01 about the time when Guzzi were contemplating a road version.....anything north of 110 ponies spelled trouble.
MCN waxed lyrical about the MG01 but pointed out that it was at the very end of development....and the opposition eg Ducati kept raising the bar..... It’s still a gorgeous thing, though. |

Moto Guzzi had (have) some issues with the later 1200 8v engines, which they admit there are design flaws with which can lead to catastrophic and very expensive repairs. They know what the issue is and have a fix but apparently refuse to issue a recall or honor any warranty claiims for owners with engine failure. The owner is to foot the repair bills. I was looking to buy one but hearing this put me right off.

Well the tank is finally finished, bar for a mop and polish. It took a lot of time to rectify the paint reaction... I had to sand back to bare metal, and re primer the lot... I then put the tank above the radiator in the small bathroom and left the radiator on for 2 days to fully harden ...I had complaints about the smell of paint!!!

It looks well put together and it will be interesting to see how it goes.
You could try it out at Cadder's Hill https://www.norwichvikings.co.uk/2017vikings/index.php Or if not, my mate has his own course near Bungay. If you bring it to Cadder's Hill you could nip round to mine afterwards for quick hose down if the clutch still works..

Lovely job, high degree of finish, and I really like the fact that from behind it looks so narrow looking more like a 250cc trail bike. Much to admire, what I would call an interesting bike. Bitza
