Well things are looking good, I managed to get out to the bike during my lunch break.

It doesn't spin the back wheel up any more when put into gear with the engine running and the clutch pulled in, and does appear to select Neutral OK with the engine running.

I just need to get it out for a ride and see if it's the same when its good and hot now.

Whenever I strip and rebiuld a Ducati dry clutch I always check that the pressure plate can be moved easily by hand and I as I rarely check the pack height I would say that is more important to get the right 'feel'.

Just an update to close out the finding Neutral issue on this bike.

Saturday was the first chance I'd had to ride it since inspecting the Clutch plates and replacing a couple of warped ones.

It now goes into Neutral very easily, and I think actually feels a little better going between all the lower gears, but I'm not overly sure as I'd not really noticed an issue before.

So it's now ready to put some decent miles on over the summer, when we get one.

I've a feeling that I'll be riding this more than my 1000SS/SL Hybrid as it's so much kinder to my aging body.

I wanted to do a little bit of a refresh on the old monster and go with Radial Calipers and forks at the same time, basically as an exercise to see if I could make it work.

The Monster Yokes, along with a lot of older non-superbike Ducati's, are 50/54mm, where as newer Superbike forks with Radial caliper mount bottoms are 53/53mm.

My solution was to build a hybrid set of forks using ST2 Showa Outers with everything else from a set of 1098 Adjustable Showas

I picked up a set of Multistrada 1200 Radial calipers:



The good thing about these is the Piston sizes, which work out to almost exactly the same piston area as the ones in the old Calipers.

I also wanted to go back to standard flat Monster handlebars and get rid of the horrible sticky up remote reservoirs, which I really don't think suit naked bikes.

As a reminder I'd originally wanted Clip-ons on this bike but not too low, so used an ST2 top yoke and bars:



And it was still wearing it's 'messy' styling wise remote reservoirs:



But there is a really simple solution to that issue.

early Multistradas use the same mastercylinders, but with much neater more conventional reservoirs.
So all I had to do was find some and fit them.

Anyway, it's all now fitted, the forks work great but just need dialing in, and the reservoirs in my opinion look far better on a naked bike.

The next bit of the plan is to get the almost new tyres moved over to a pair of 5 spoke wheels I have and then ride it some more.

Interesting doing forks. I have done 4 sets in my time at Proteam already and of various sorts. I like the 1098 forks look very cool in black. Bike looking sharp. Great job.

I like the reservoir conversion. Do you just prise the original elbow out of the master and plug the new reservoir in?

Your fork mod is good, do you get more travel than the Monster forks?
ST forks have about 10mm more travel than Monsters.

Did you know that the master top clamps from the SS have no mirror bosses?
Very hard to find left hand ones though with a locating hole for the peg on the fast idle barrel. I notice your fast idle lever is different though and seems to be part of the switch cluster.

I made myself some tools to work on forks a few years ago which makes life easy:







Plus I've ended up with both 41 and 43mm Seal drivers.
Although I found I had to reduce the outer diameter of the 41mm one in my lathe to drive the seals home on my old M900 Marzocchi forks.:

Yep, easy as that.
And there is a screw that holds the reservoir down using the screw hole for the 'Meccano' bracket.

The ST outers are just sleeves that don't have any effect on length, everything inside is 1098 including the damper so that sets the length. They are longer than the Monster forks, which is why they are up through the top yoke, but I've not measured the travel.
They are both 43mm Stanchions, I used the ST Bushes as the 1098 bushes are a smaller outer diameter and slopped about in the ST Outers.

I've got the preload set too soft at the minute, and need to adjust it.

Yes, on this M1000, my 1000SS, and 999, the fast idle lever is part of the LH switchgear.

Yes I would be interested.
This has piqued my interest. I had a search for multistrada pots and only found one with a master, so they do seem to be quite uncommon. I wonder is there are after-market ones?

I think replicas of the round pots, which would use the original (or bling) lids, would look quite nice and not impossible to make in alloy.
Does the spigot have to deform or flex a bit to snap in? Or are O-rings involved?
If the former then perhaps alloy would be too hard and rigid to work?

Nice job with the forks.

I have 916 forks (with radial caliper mounts) on my Monster but went the 'traditional' way of boring out the top yoke and making a shim/bush for the bottom.

But, in the interest of using what's available will you be building a set of non adjustable 1098 forks with axial caliper mounts for your next project...?

I managed to find the ones I've fitted on Ebay.

I took this images before I fitted them which shows how a special screw is used in one corner to clamp the reservoir down and then provide a thread for one of the cap screws:

The reservoir has a small tube pointing down that fits in to a rubber grommet in the top of the master cylinder.



Interestingly the Multi 1000 parts explosion diagram completely misses it out, I'm assuming because if you buy a new reservoir it comes with one fitted. But I just reused the one that was around the right angle bend piece for the remote reservoirs:
