Rolling refresh - HELP! rear brake lever strip clean and lube

Does rear brake master cylinder rod just pull out of rubber boot? And push back? Mine came free during strip of rear brake pedal assembley and struggling to find any info on this…

OK after doing the gear change lever and the side stand, I started on the rear brake lever as it was even more filthy. To get this off however you need to remove the footrest hanger. This was fiddly given access / need for leverage and the various washers, etc as well as disconnecting brake switch, but I got there with some patience.

As I didn’t want to undo the brake lines on the rear brake master cylinder with some effort I managed to disconnect the push rod and spring from the lever end and clean everything. However in the process the rod came out of the master cylinder boot with a ‘pop’ sound. It seems it’s just a bare end, no obvious way it attaches. Have I messed up? Or can I just push the rod back into the boot?

Looked online but couldn’t find any info. Any advice appreciated!

That's normal, scary the first time you remove it though ;-)
Just shove it back in, no worries

Thank you Mark64 for the reassurance. That’s a relief

was worried I’d messed up…

Aside from freaking me out initially, it has make refitting things easier as I could reassemble everything at the pivot end of the rod and then just slide rod into the boot when refitting the footrest hanger.

If I ever have to dissemble agin will come in handy to!
