What is the purpose ?
What is the purpose of the flat head screw under the 22mm Mesh filter on side of engine ,,, as mine is leaking really badly on the 750ss ,,
Initially I thought it was the crush washer on the 22mm mesh filter but its not .... I have drained the bike again ,, and there was a steel washer under the 8mm bolt . ????

As far as I know it just blanks off a drilling and doesn't ever need to be removed.
It does have a dedicated ali crush washer, so someone has obviously taken it out and lost the washer at some point! I got some crush washers for mine but never bothered to change it. You could just as easily gunk it up with Threebond or chewing gum as it won't ever have to come out again.

Yes lots of machining went on inside and only way to blank them was bolts.
