S4R - induction noise

Hi guys

My new me to S4R is even better than I’d hoped; fantastic bike.

However, the induction noise feels a little out of place. The bike has an open Airbox and I’m told this is part of the termi “kit”.

Can anyone tell me what other parts constitute a termi kit?

I think I’d like to put a lid back on the Airbox; I’d rather hear the exhaust note than induction raw.

Any pros/cons to this?

Does anyone have a lid that’ll fit an S4R kicking about unwanted?

Part Number 96439503B which comprised of

Exhaust cans
High efficiency air filter with open lid
ECU

If you put a closed lid on the airbox you will have to get it remapped as you'll be restricting airflow and the bike will run very rich,
alternativley if you have the original ECU swap that back in with an unmodified airbox lid lose a bunch of power

Do you have the liner under the tank? Even with it they do still roar quite loud. 748 and 916 make the same noise too.

I've got an MWR top for my 900 that along with the headers, cans, clutch and carbs is going to make a right old racket

Ducati's with decent exhausts are never too loud!

The intake roar, clutch rattle & booming exhaust are 3 of the best reasons to own a Monster

No, no liner under the tank.

I was just surprised at the sound difference between my 900 and the S4RS.

Now I understand it’s part of a kit, so all or nothing, that’s fine. I guess I just wanted more exhaust, less induction!

The noise difference is due to your s4 sucking a lot more air than your old 900

People on the street won't be hearing the the induction roar so at least you can smile knowing they are getting the full termi effect

Induction Roar is a bit of an acquired taste.

Replacing the standard liner under the tank will have a damping effect, but changes the noise rather than reduces the volume too much.

My M900 came to me with an open airbox top, and the tank lined underneath with Foil backed sound deadening/heat reflecting material. When I put a std liner back under it the induction roar became lower pitched, and blended in more with the Exhaust note from the DP Remus silencers, so although it was in reality almost as loud it definitely was not as noticeable.

My M1000 also came to me with an open airbox top.
The liner under the tank was really manky, actually mouldy, and split open in places spilling bits of foam everywhere.
I tried patching it up and persisting with it, but have definitely noticed a difference in pitch/tone now I've ripped it out and am looking for a replacement.

Note that on my M1000 I also threw away the manky unbranded 'Performance' Air filter and replaced it with a Genuine K&N one.
It's probably just because the old one was blocked up, but the Tone/Pitch went up again with the K&N.

You should be able to adjust the CO trim in the ECU to compensate for adding the airbox lid but not if you have lamda sensor or so I have read. I don't have lamda on mine anymore so its not an issue for me.

The induction noise is part of the experience of the big 4 valvers but you could try adding the tank liner back.

I wonder what those RoadRacing tanks are like with the inlet tubes through the top...

I'm surprised it's much louder, I have a 916 with a 4v engine and whilst it's certainly noisy, it's not as loud as my M900 which has that well documented noisy setup; big-bore, high-comp, large split-single carbs and no airbox, either from the intake or the exhaust.

My 900 is sie, so no carbs. It’s all exhaust noise. The S4R is a whole other level of performance and induction noise.

I might pick up a tank liner, see if that makes a difference.
