MCE insurance

I have just been informed that my insurance will end on 31 1 22. Not best pleased! I have found it hard to get insurance for an un garaged bike in London so I went with MCE more to comply with legal requirements than anything else. A 2000 pound excess was just part of it. I always knew they were a fly by night operation but it still comes as a slap in the face.

Have you checked the small print. I’m with mce, they sent me an email saying mce uk are not effected and will honour all policies up to end date but won’t send out renewals or auto-renewals as such.

So when it ends it ends and it’ll be different insurance company time.

On a personal note i had an off whilst under mce some years ago. They handled it very well imo.

Ignore that.

Just got an email update, end of January no policy damn. I can’t even remember which bike I’ve got under mce…I’ll need to check.

I’m assuming that that years ncb is a goner too.

poxy year so far

I've got one of these too, came today alongside a virtual doubling of monthly energy cost notification. We can claim back unused portion apparantly but that's little comfort tbh

They went into administration in November apparently, but they said then that existing policy holders would be still covered until their policies expired. Clearly something has changed since then.

Hey guys just off the phone with mce. Took ages to get through.

I’ve confirmed with them that I’m with mce Gibraltar and not mce uk so my policy 100% ends on 31st January.

So the guy is saying my policy was supposed to run to 17th February and I’m entitled to my NCB however they will not issue it until the 1st of February (i have been assured that mce uk will honour mce Gibraltar NCB’s) and I’ll need to phone back on the 1st, lot of bo**ocks that. It’ll be a nightmare or impossible to get through as i assume everyone is being told the same thing

On the plus side my new insurance company have given me 30 days to produce the NCB so i have a wee bit time to play with.

I've just taken out another policy with mce to start on 1st Feb . I followed the link in their latest email for a quote. Policy seemed the same as the last one and the price was about the same as my renewal last November. Fingers crossed that this one does not go tits up as well. It is probably a rubbish policy but the big players couldn't accomodate me last time and I don't suppose anything has changed...now to try and get a refund from the dead policy... maybe 90 percent of the prorata remaining unused amount? not too hopeful.

If you opt for a high excess you may get a reduction on your premium. You can then insure your excess with another policy. A £1000 excess will cost around £50. Just search excess insurance
