Monster Curious

I've spent the last four days in bed with Covid and have decided that I should get rid of my Buell XB12SS Lightning Long. She's great to ride, but a little unreliable. So I decided I need something more modern and slightly unreliable. Could that be a Monster?

I am thinking about an M1200. Not sure about base or S. My local dealer would be DMC Preston. Budget about £10,000. Is the 1200 about to be discontinued?

I am not sure I like the 937, but I haven't seen it in the flesh.

S model every time if you can stretch to the extra cost.
The post 2017 non-S model has slightly better steering geometry.
Get a test ride!

I hadn't considered the R due to my stumpy legs. I believe it is taller? I mainly want low down torque rather than top end.

Welcome to the forum Katshark. I have the 1200s and can recommend it, it's great fun to ride. The only thing that lets it down is the quick shifter but that's' easily turned off.

I'm not used to a quick shifter anyway. The Buell changes very slowly.

I just want loads of torque at low revs to bimble around the countryside.

In answer to your question, yes the 1200 monster stopped production earlier this year, the R stopped in 2018/19.

If you want to bimble with occasional spirited rides the S is more everyday friendly than the R - the R needs to be ridden harder to get the best out of it, it’s sharper, more focused than the S. It eats tyres too, I get about 17-1800 miles out of a pair on my R.

£10k will get you a later model S, don’t bother with the base model

Thanks Pedro, I'll be down to the dealers as soon as I am allowed out. November 8th as long as I don't test positive again!
