Post orifice ripoff
Ordered some parts from USA ,, I have ordered from Corsair before They send USPS
total bill was $228 or about £160 including postage,, bits arrived in UK last week and I was expecting to pay Duty of about £45 including handling charge but Royal Mail office have left a note yesterday saying that duty and handling charge is £198 ???? but I cant get the items as sorting office is closed due to Covid and there is a £3 a day storage charge ,so the bill is rising daily ,, the parts weigh 375 gm something very wrong here ??? phoned the Post office but they say all charges are correct ,, which is a lie .. not sure what to do ??? or who to complain to,,, never had a problem like this

Ask them to provide a breakdown of the fees. Maybe they are basing customs duty on $2280 instead of $228 or something. I think the handling fee is about £8, the rest is duty

It should be about 20% duty, so they've made a mistake I think.

there must be an excise appeal process, presumably you have an invoice

I spoke to regional office this morning , they checked and called me back ,, They said i am correct its not right and also the storage fee is not applicable ,, the cost is now only £21.89 i can collect it from Hove depot tommorow ,, as to what happened , they could not come up with a sensible answer ? something about its being assessed as spare parts for a gun ???

I suspect that they are applying post Brexit charges. We are still in the Brexit cooling period till the end of the year so are still covered by EU trade agreements with the US. That will change next year when WTO tariffs will apply.
