1100evo rear brake problem
Hi anyone got any idea why my rear brake has suddenly lost pressure?
Tried bleeding it fluid flows freely but can't get any pedal , no leaks anywhere , possible ABS fault ? |

Hi David
I'd have thought that an ABS problem would trigger a warning light or fault code. Did this happen overnight or have you not tried it for a few weeks/months? If removing the caliper and doing a thorough bleeding doesn't fix it http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=58090 then the only thing I can think of is a failed seal in the master cylinder - it might be tight enough to pump fluid but not a good enough seal to sustain any pressure. Edit PS thanks, Rollo! |

Oh yes,it's the back brake fairies who wander the garages of the world looking for evo back brakes to tinker with

Thanks fella , isolated the master cylinder and it hols pressure fine , just read on another forum to bleed at and pump , so that's tomorrow! Just how can air get in there though ? It's been fine just moved bike today and pedal went right to end of travel .seems 1200 are very susceptible too judging by posts ! I've had her 4 years and never any bother , till today

Shame you can't test it though. I had the same issue then after bleeding it seemed fine, then a 10 minute ride and the back brake would start dragging and slowing me down. In the end it was a new cylinder from Moto rapido. The old cylinder would bleed normally but couldn't force fluid back from calliper to reservoir so same as when fluid expands due to heat. There's a bypass in the cylinder as you've probably seen in the previous threads linked here and I believe that was my problem

They (those rear masters) are prone to heat failure either from fluid heat or heat from the engine. 748/916 in particular since on those they are bolted to the engine direct. Just be sure leave loads of free play in the lever to piston adjuster and take it for a short run up and down the street to make sure it's not dragging even slightly enough to heat the fluid.
If it heats up enough and has no way to release the pressure it could lock the wheel and cause expensive damage to caliper and disc.
