Monster

I have owned a 916 in the past and looking to rejoin the fold once again, perhaps with a 1100 evo? Still undecided, but this forum will hopefully provide enough information and advice to make the correct choice.

Welcome Omar

Evo owner here, fantastic bikes; the usual issue you'll come across is the poor fueling. There's lots of threads on the issue on here.

Mind Evo's are air cooled, might be worth while test riding a few different versions of the monster. 796, 1100s or evo, 821 and and maybe a 1200 too or the S4 range if you fancy.

Welcome, Omar. I've had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Monster, (M900, S2R 1000 and 1100 Evo), and they're all great bikes - you're spoilt for choice if you're looking for your first Monster.

As Ron mentioned, If you like the 3rd generation shape, don't forget the 1100S (if you can find one!). There are a few posts here about comparing and contrasting the 1100S and Evo, which might be useful. http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=57576 (posts #10 - #15).

The 1100 Evo is a great bike, especially with a few tweaks. If you ride in town or at low speed a lot, you will notice a lot of hunting and surging. Don't let that put you off as it's easily remedied: http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=54450

Of course, if you only ride the open roads, this may not bother you at all.

There are so many mods you can do to the 696/796/1100 to make them your own - check here for some examples:

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=55168

Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on.

Closest thing to a 916 monsterwise would be an S4/S4R and as Luddite said the later air cooled bikes like the 786/1100/EVO do tend to suffer from poor fueling and low speed running issues due to strict emission regs. That may have been fixed by a previous owner if you're lucky. They also have plastic tanks which can swell and distort, the earlier 695/S2R and S4RS also had plastic expanding tanks. You might be able to dry them out and they may shrink back to almost as good as before.

Yea, sorry welcome to the uk monsterati gang! i just thought the Desmoquattro bikes enjoyed a good number of years of development at the sharp end of WSB and BSB too and a lot of parts will fit straight into an S4 so if modding is your thing that would be a better choice than the 796 or 1100.
