UKMOC v2.0
Can someone explain the distinction between the two above, I thought I was a member and am happy to pay the subs to become a member (I thought I had although I do not remember paying any subs in the last year but may be wrong) ?????

more housekeeping required ;-)
the forum runs on bbs software, we don’t use all the functionality, I will try to explain at length... you’ve opened a can of worms Richard... but it’s a can of worms I’m planning to eat soon :-) Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 06:12 AM.. |

Covering some of the options available on vBulletin BBS, ignoring those we don’t use but including some we should add.
UKMOC member = Monster owner who lives in British Isles (Founder’s mum was Irish) UK ex-pats eg moved to France or USA. Also eg. Polish or Argentinian Monster owner living in UK. If you sell your Monster we give you one year’s ‘grace’ to realise what a terrible mistake it was before you are reduced to forum user. Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 07:25 AM.. |

Registered User
we keep forum open to non-Monster owners, Monster owners from elsewhere, this makes a richer environment. It might include eg Chris Jessop http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=57102 (a long standing tradition) or Haloguy628 http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=57485 (from USA but took a great deal of time to help someone) and Thuli my partner/pillion, who unusually among WAGs uses forum (occasionally) Boyfriends/Husbands of female Monster Owners are quite often Registered Users as they look for help fixing “the better half’s” bike. DOC Member(not in vBulletin)
we will affiliate UKMOC Members with the Desmo Owners Club (Ducati Factory) not to be confused with DOCGB (Ducati Owners Club GB)... also a DOC, You can be a member of more than one DOC Sometimes the factory sends out ‘welcome kits’(typically a card, pin, patch & tshirt), this will come from your primary DOC, not sure how we work this out at the moment, the factory have told me but I can cite examples that prove them wrong) if you are a DOC Member we can also register your partner with factory, even if they never use forum, ride pilion or come on rideouts on their KTM, Honda, Triumph etc. After all you might want to sit with them if you get a discount Ducati Grandstand ticket for MotoGP/WSB, or go to WDW. The UKMOC remains free, so we when I get a box of stuff from Italy, I email relevant people and ask for P&P, other clubs charge an annual subscription so can send the kits out for free. I want to keep the club free, money is divisive, if we find we have made a profit we can donate to Riders For Health charity. Some UKMOC Members want nothing to with affiliation (eg Shuffy) but this will need to change * Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 07:46 AM.. |

vBulletin needs to be replaced with something more up to date.
The benchmark is ‘as easy to use as facebook’ but facebook is useless for doing what a forum does and I have avoided it because it eats everything it touches like the Borg in StarTrekTNG. |

* GDPR is forcing some changes in the way your data is handled.
The factory has introduced ‘myducati’ this will allow you to manage your own contact details, eliminate the risk of fines, save me a lot of work. I won’t have to use a googledocs form to gather information and then manually update two different systems. Stupid things can create work, putting your address down as eg. ’A Street, Some Town’ is very funny but if I need to keep correcting it, I’m stuck behind a keyboard rather than some handlebars! We’re not telepathic... if you don’t tell us you’ve moved, we can’t update your address. If you chose not to receive communication from club/factory, you might never have received your discount code/link for WDW2018 ticket Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 08:00 AM.. |

Most of the 400+ DOCs around the World are local, affiliated with their local dealer. We are a national club, associated with DucatiUK (I put Moto Rapido to simplify the paperwork)
CLUB = FORUM = CLUBHOUSE This is why it has been so important to keep facebook at arms length so far. All the regional UKMOC Reps might use facebook, mobile numbers etc. to organise rideouts monthly meets etc. but always post details on forum, it keeps the club alive! |

Any questions so far? |

registered user is a ‘vbulletin’ name for ‘forum user’, we often don’t remember to change the tick-box behind the scenes, unless someone asks specifically.

I'm still not sure if the worms in the cans are members, more likely they are users

Keep focussed on topic Nick, this thread is going to become hard enough to follow...
I’ve already gone back and edited/added info in the above posts, I will notify of this in latest post in future. (I always thought ‘registered user’ sounded like some sort of heroin addict... sorry) Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 11:09 PM.. |

Always remember we exist to ride our bikes, no matter how much we enjoy fixing and modifying them, the keyboard is there to help (& inspire), not replace or distract.
I’d love to return to where we were a decade ago. 15 bikes on Belgium trip... 10 on to LeMans 24Moto via Nurburgring 30 bikes at WDW, 60 bikes on weekender national rideout Last edited by slob; 04-06-2019 at 10:14 PM.. |
