clip on's or drop bars for M750

Hi all

I have recently got a bit bored of my 2003 M750 so i have decided i would like to make some alterations to get the blood flowing once more, however my knowledge is limited.

i would like to start with some drop handlebars - are clip ons the way to go? and if so can anyone point me in the right direction of what i need. i want to add bar end mirriors afterwards.

Clip ons, especially without risers, are MUCH lower than regular bars.

That might be ok/good for you, but it also has two other important results: for similar 'comfort' you might need to move the footpegs AND mirrors, especially bar ends, are now so low that looking in them will require moving your head/attention away from traffic ahead.

But considering i have really only had the bike to look at in the last couple of years i don't think it'll matter!!

You could try a set of drop 'Clubman' bars or 'Ace Bars' as they used to be called- probably a bit Hipster these days but I rather like them (I had them on my old X7 and RD250E back in the day).

They have the advantage of giving the clip on look without being quite so extreme and by using the original bar mounts they don't leave you wondering how best to tidy the top yoke up like clip ons do.

Search eBay and you'll find they come in chrome, gloss and satin black.

Nice, my mate has just got his RD400 back on the road- he's also got a KH500.

I had loads of two strokes back in the day ... X7 first (with Swarbrick expansions), RD250E, then it was a couple of big four strokes before a little go on a mate's RD500 meant I HAD to have one and so it was... RD500, 350YPVS, before going back to off road bikes for a bit.

This was my old 500 which I saw on eBay a couple of years ago now- pretty much unrestored apart from black wheels (they were white originally).

Up for £10k!!

I sold it for £2300 thinking I had done alright only loosing £200 after two years of thrashing it about as my only transport.

I have the Rizoma clip-ons on my Carbie M900, and along with the bar end mirrors they give it a much lower profile with that slightly 'hunched over' look.

They are not too low, and I find them comfortable.

I have these on mine, with a 2inch rise. They are nice but not cheap and US postage cost may now make them prohibitive unless you can find some in the UK:-

You can get different adapters for them too, if you want more or less rise beyond what moving up or down the fork leg will give you. I find 2in comfortable for me but I think no rise would be crippling!

One thing to note is that if you're using the coffin type Master Cylinders you'll need to space them out to clear the clip-on bodies.

Monster parts in the states do a kit which I used:

It includes a little plate to space out the locating screw for the choke if using a handle bar mounted lever.

I've brought two sets from them now, they both arrived quickly, are good quality, and not worth me spending the time at my Mill to make them at the price.
