Hello from Somerset
New to the forum, a refugee from the ducati forum as I'm only interested in monsters.
I am interested in an 1100 but don't know much about them, what should I look out for? What are their good points and bad points? Mick |

Well, to quote a great modern philosopher:
I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of the 1100 models. You've basically got three to choose from (ignoring the two Evo special editions 'Diesel' and 'Anniversary'). There's the basic M1100 and its blingier brother the M1100S, or the model that followed it, the M1100 Evo. The M1100 and M1100S have dry clutches and twin spark engines. They also have a slightly heavier flywheel than the Evo. The S model has Öhlins suspension front and rear and some carbon bits so is the best specced. Note that ABS was not an option on these models until 2010 and traction control is only on the Evo models. The Evo has a wet clutch, lighter flywheel and only one plug per cylinder. It's supposed to have more power, but it's not noticeable on the road. ABS and traction control are standard. Because of the heavier flywheel and twin spark engine, I think the 1100 & 1100S run sweeter at low speeds than the Evo, but it's nothing that can't be sorted with a few simple tweaks and a remap of the ECU. Apart from the obvious differences in the exhaust systems between the 1100 and the Evo, the other main difference is in the footrests; the 1100 has a single casting for rider and pillion, while the Evo has separate footrests and the pillion's can be removed. There are still a whole host of mods and accessories available for these models if you want to personalise them. I bought an 1100s last November after wanting one for years. 09 with 16500 miles two owners good history, tidy clean unmolested bike for £5150.
Riding it home, I thought oh dear what have I bought, I'm not going to get on with this... Anyway, once I'd started cleaning it, it was mine and the fun began. Got some Termis and the DP ecu from a guy in Lithuania for £400, new to me slave cylinder ebay £30 Rear shock resprung and serviced at Ktech £200 New clutch plates ebay £60 and done the quiet clutch mod. 14t Sprocket but will be going back to 15. Had a remap done at Cornerspeed last Friday £200 and despite having a wounded finger went for a blast yesterday, best thing ever, it's an absolute hooligan now. Only problem is the increased performance is showing up the forks even more they are rubbish at the moment. It's had oil seals at some point in the past and I'm presuming whoever did it has done something wrong, so they are the next job. Belts to be done over the winter. I suppose, all in all I've spent about £1000 on top of the purchase price. Do I regret it? Not one bit! It's a fantastic bike, This is a keeper.

Thanks for the information, I'm not new to riding, have been at it for a lot of years and currently have four other bikes. Only ever had one Ducati before which was a 960 GTS. The 1100 I am interested in is in fairly good condition and all original with termis fitted but the owner is asking a bit too much for it but based on the feedback you have given me I will make him an offer.

Do all the 100's have plastic tanks?
I have two other bikes with plastic tanks and they have both been badly affected by ethanol in the crap fuel we are subjected to these days so would not down that road again, unless there is an effective cure.

You could be lucky in Clevedon too as Esso say their Synergy Supreme+ is ethanol free everywhere except Teeside, Scotland and also Devon and Cornwall.
