Back again
Hi guys & gals
One time monster owner (M600 written off in 2011) and Italian bike owner (Dorsoduro sold in 2012) on the hunt for a Monster once more for Essex b road bend swinging. 4 years off motorised 2 wheels after getting the cycling bug but now got the urge to return to Monster ownership. So looking to spend 4 grand or so on a 696 or maybe a 796 but has got to be red if anybody knows one up for sale, got mu eyes peeled on ebay as its a good time time of year for a buyer I believe. Cheers Paul |

Welcome! I'll be sure to keep an eye out as I'm always scouting Autotrader to see what's about.
You should be able to get something pukka for £4-£4.5k. I've got a 696+, if I can be of any help, let me know! Tom |

Welcome along Paul!
I've had my 696+ ABS for over a year now and I still love it. You should get something decent for that sort of money. Give me a shout if you have any questions. Cheers. Simon.

Aww cheers guys.
Looking on autotrader & MCN too. Spotted a 2009 696+ up for £3500 but almost 30000 miles and looks in vgc, belts not changed in 3 years though....not sure if it is worth a gamble at that price. How much is a belt change? Cheers Paul |

I have a Monster I'm thinking of selling I was going to wait until the spring but I noticed your post, it's a m696 2012, red, approx 6500 miles, all standard apart from a set of RG bungs/mushrooms, moted in June, owned from new, it will have new belts fitted in the next week £ 4200. Poole Dorset

That's a good deal John!
Paul, lots of places do the belts as part of full service which can be anywhere around the £450 mark. I've however seen people get a more basic belt service for £150. The belts themselves are inexpensive and probably not too difficult to fit, but when I bought my 696+ it'd already been done. You may want to ask is the valve clearances have been checked too, as this is a common part of a belt service. Tom |

The belts cost around £55. Then a manual is about £20, or local hourly mechanic rate! Either way its not a huge amount.

Thanks John, sounds like a good bike & price but your a little bit further away than i would have liked.
Now looking at 796's too,not a lot difference in price. Still not sure how much to budget for a dealer belt change though... £200 off the asking price i'm thinking? |

I bought a 796 this year in April . Nice bike for bend swinging . Done about 1.5k on it so far and it's really enjoyable, takes a bit of getting used to though.

Cheers.....a warm & sunny 1st week of ownership but damp & grey 2nd week so just 1 outing to Greenwich market "park it in the market" Thurs evening this week.
A weekender run would have been nice but will be in Jerez for Moto GP....in hire car. |
