Not a lot different in looks to this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1975-Fant...UAAOSwNkJZ-avS Amongst the sixteen year olds back then they were highly desirable for mythical speeds (maybe sixty!), but also "blew up" according to rumour. I bought a Suzuki AP50 instead!

A friend had a Caballero 50 back when I were a lad and (with the obligatory larger carb etc.) it was head and shoulders better than the average moped. But at my age (and size) my days of 50cc biking are over...

I quite like the looks of the 500 too.
But ...... Imagine a similar bike but with the simplicity of an aircooled 650 single, an ally tank, right way up forks (more durable offroad), 21 inch front wheel (rather than style-conscious 17), proper mudguards and a single exhaust can, with the whole thing weighing in at around 145kg. I'm just putting the finishing touches to such a build. I'll post a few pics when its done. I have long held the opinion that Ducati should build a similar, desmo single engined bike. I reckon they'd sell a shed load of those. Last edited by utopia; 25-02-2018 at 05:00 PM.. |

Yep I like that quite a lot- time will tell how reliable it and the dealer network for any warranty claims etc. will be but I hope it goes well.

The list of fantic dealers shows one near squires bike cafe, not far from me. Would be rude not to have a look in the flesh.
I’m not sure where the engine is scourced. It could be similar or even same as the one used in the SWM gran milano. ( chinese, but proven design)? Last edited by damien666; 25-02-2018 at 05:22 PM.. |

The full comp endueo version was identical
No mythical speeds with them, but hard work to ride with that teensy power band. Thesere's also a 160 version I remember they were quite wicked in their day. The 500's motor does look a bit familiar, there was a Chinese built enduro/crosser a few years ago with a similar motor. If so doesn't the same factory also make motors for BMW and Suzuki or Yamaha??

Just been reading and it looks to be scourced from Zongshen engine builder. Seems to be a proven and widely used lump by the likes of Italy’s SWM etc.
I’ve found myself really wanting the 500. I bet it commutes really well. |

doesn,t matter wether or not the design is proven, if the Chinese have touched it you are on a wing and a prayer

Interesting that Mototrans made Ducati under license for many years yet supposedly many Ducati enthusiasts look down their nose at these machines however Mototrans spent considerable R&D and introduced improvement for many years (barring the Vic Camp debacle). Common perception and reality are quite different particularly given the standard of modern Ducati build quality over the years! |

Well I put my details on their enquiry form Sunday evening and got a very swift response first thing this morning stating my nearest dealer along with production and order fulfilment schedules and the likelihood of available demonstrators. Which apparently is down to the dealers discretion after pre-ordered motorcycle deliveries have been taken care of.
I have since emailed back asking for more details regarding the motor, where it is made and by whom. I will keep you all posted.
