New Bike

Just got this M900 it does have a misfire which I need to sort but I think the carbs need cleaning out as it pops and backfires

Yes, looks like a nice, clean unmolested example. Late model carby or early ie bike?

'Carbs need cleaning', should have given it away as a late carby, doh And yes they probably do or else you've an air leak in the exhaust or a fouled plug maybe?

Yeah late carb 99 plugs are fine have swapped plugs over so know it's good as misfire stayed on the same cylinder, so next clean carbs and fresh fuel. Unmolested for now

Very nice Tricky.. Well done.

I would definitely check for air leaks on the exhaust before hauling the carbs apart, and check plug colour too.

I can't quite make out from the resolution of the photo what it says on the side panel, but I think you may have an "S" model there.
It has the later type remote reservoirs but I can't make out if it has the later Goldline callipers to go with them... Didn't think they were fitted till 2000?
Look's like they could be adjustable Showas too?
If it is an "S" it might have cast iron front discs and also a floating rear brake calliper, possibly an Ohlins on the back too.

Another little clue that it might be an "S" is the rubber covered footrests.

According to the spec sheets the '99 M900S had goldline masters, carbon mudguards, a steering damper and an Ohlins shock, black wheels and rear underguard with carbon sidepanels and most importantly the big valve heads while all the other 900 monsters had the 750 heads that year which restricted the power to 70bhp.

New! Looks at least 17 or 18 years old

Looks like a decent and unmolested 17 year old. Some new mirrors, a tail chop and you're ready to go

Another former 750 owner defects to 900.
Judas !

Sorry, no offence, just a little Bob Dylan reference there.

It looks well tidy.
A bit of a "changeover" model by the looks, with later motor but earlier wheels, bodywork etc.

Nicely timed for the beginning of spring.
It will be interesting to hear how you find it compared to the 750.
(yeah I know, Darkness, open the shed door and there it is).
