FUEL TANK M900 capacity
FUEL TANK M900 :- Hi has anyone attempted increasing the fuel capacity of their fuel tank by inserting steel panels and reforming?

Haven't done the tank thing.
However, changing to FCR41 carbs did give me a significant reduction in fuel consumption - from 40 something up to 50/60 mpg. Sorry to be so vague but I don't really keep track. Oh, and you get a good mid-range boost. |

No, but I've thought about it.
Not for a Monster, but an SS project. I Thought that if the airbox and battery were moved elsewhere, (All part of a major revamp) that the huge hollow under the tank could be flatted off by welding a plate over it. Before the panel went on I would drill big holes in the hollow part so it would fill with fuel. The remaining metal would act as a baffle and also still carry the clips for the pump and filter.....Dunno if it would work...Don't see why not though. |

I looked at that on the standard tank but it needed to be under the tank so not a good plan. A possibility was a complete new tank but it would only have gone a few litres more without looking odd.
Best option I could see was an extra pump and a fuel filled belly pan. All seemed way too much hassle for the minor gains

As Crust suggested, FCR41 carbs will substantially improve fuel consumption and make the bike much more enjoyable to ride as well, plus you get your money back afterwards ....

Are they set up right? I had mine set up on a dyno after I fitted them and consistently got mid to high '50s mpg compared to mid 40s on the standard carbs

They are setup OK, MPG is low but there are a few other mods that contribute to this.
I'm not complaining because the extra fuel used is being put to good work....

If you want loads of MPGs I'll swap my M600 for your M900. Mine is currently getting around 62mpg.

If we are talking about the special Monster in your avatar that has been cleverly adapted for a wheelchair, then surely there is room somewhere for an auxillary tank?...Like the place where seat used to be?
