Hello!!

Hi all

I’m not really a new member as I was here back in the day around the time the club first started, but got sidetracked by sportsbikes like the 998 for a while. I always kept my M750 though, and have had it for 12 years now. Feel like I’ve come full circle. For me the Monsters the perfect bike, different, cool and so much fun! I have a particular love for the early carbed versions. Mines also proved very cheap to run and totally reliable (give or take the odd blown bulb), which is something I couldn’t say about the superbikes..

I couldn’t remember my original username so thought I’d start afresh…

Cheers!

Welcome back.
I'm not surprised that you kept the 750.
I reckon there will come a time when they're impossible to get hold of because they will all have become keepers.
To be honest, on the right roads, I have no need whatsoever for anything more.
And they're nice and simple, with no plumbing or electronics too.
And yes, with home servicing they are ridiculously cheap to run ...not to mention over 50mpg, no matter how hard you thrash them.

Cheers guys. Yeah the 750's a keeper. Though I'm currently looking for an original '93 900, I'll always hang onto the 750. I did actually have have two identical silver 750's for a while. Sold the other one to a mate for £1000 years ago. Really wish I'd kept it as well now, especially since my mate destroyed the top end a few years later when he neglected the belts....

Mines now black as I got tired of trying to fix the leaking fuel tank (the other one leaked too .... common problem), and got one from a later dark model off ebay. I'll get it resprayed at some point as I think the early silver 750's are lovely, and a bit of a change from the yellow and red ones. (no offence to anyone with a red or yellow one intended, they're all lovely...)

Welcome back.

I agree the M750 is a peach. Came very close to buying one in 2000 after probably the second most fun test ride I've ever had. (Got air and everything!) Huge fun and yet only 60bhp. I still have pics of it somewhere, I was that smitten.

Ah, if only....

Yeah, 60ish doesn't seem a lot, but it's never felt underpowered, far from it, and I'd always assumed it was around 70ish. I just checked the specs, as I've never really known what power the 750 had. 62 bhp apparently, in contrast to the 900 which had 76. The later injected 800 engines have almost the same power as the early 900's it seems.

I've never actually ridden an early M900, but used to have a 900ss, so basically the same engine, and the 750 has always felt very balanced, with exactly the right weight to power ratio. When I was looking for my first Monster all those years ago the consensus from reviews in magazines was that the 750 was the best choice, smoother than the 900, but faster than the 600. Plus they were quite a bit cheaper than the 900 then.

One thing about the first 750's like mine is that you've only got a single disc up front (like the early 750ss), which would cut down on some weight from the 2 disc models I guess. I think the one massive single disc is more than adequate and 2 discs is a bit OTT, which is a view shared by the guy on Ducatisuite I seem to remember..

One thing the 900 has which I wish the 750 had is the alloy swingarm. The steel one on mine is now looking a bit sorry for itself. I have thought about getting an alloy one on ebay and swapping them over.. Anyone done that?
