Returning to the UK

Hi all,

Obviously not a new member but after a turbulent work year I am relocating back to the UK having secured a new job in St. Ives, Cambridge.

The Monnie will be getting re-imported to the UK but probably will not bring it back till next spring as:-

1) I will be fitting the winter wheels to the cars this weekend so bugger to riding a 1000 miles in a North German winter

2) I will not have a house with a garage till next year so the Duke can stay tucked up in the shed here till we get the house packed up and move out

So if there are any members around the St. Ives area it will be good to get some input into:-

1) anyone know of a nice room to rent for a few months?
2) any recommendations in terms of parts of the region that are more notorious in terms of "best avoided" etc would also be useful (although I don't think it is a dodgy area at all)

Not sure the man cave will be coming back as it is probably too big for most o the gardens I can afford!

but hopefully there will be space for a MkII version

Hi mate, welcome back to Blighty!

I use to socialise in the St Ives area, a few years back, and most of the town is ok.
The area to steer clear of in the area is actually in Huntingdon.
The villages to the south of St Ives are very pleasant, e.g. Over, Cottenham, Somersham and Eirth.

Company have put me up in a local guesthouse in St. Ives until I get to know the area and organise a house with a garage so the Monnie and Alfa can move in.
Overall I prefer village life to a town so Huntingdon will be avoided but there looks to be some nice villages around so looking forward to exploring them.

You'll enjoy exploring the area, there are some cracking roads around St Ives and Huntingdon.

My business is in Godmanchester and you could look just north of huntingdon as the roads are great. Where were you in G?

In Joachimsthal, 70Km due north from Berlin.

It's a beautiful part of the world, surrounded by forests and lakes with great roads running through the region.

Although in saying that the Police have no humour (€40 euro fine for 73kph in a 70 limit) and the dear and wild boar are braver at playing chicken than I am!
Last week I was on the autobahn and a deer had got onto the carriageway (an unrestricted section) and was hit by a Beemer 5 series estate at speed. the deer was obviously dead but the Beemer was about 600 metres up the road on its roof after rolling many times. looked VERY bad!

So keep it in mind the next time you are blatting through lovely stretches of scenary

sorry to hear that you are moving. Give me a price for some of your lights if you dont need them any more.

And dont forget to notify me when you need somebody to help with the packing.

I Know what you mean about the wildlife Loud exhaust do save lifes around here.

You were lucky with your fine I got done for not showing a number plate correctly 65 € and one point ( my first ever). I just bent it up a bit to much to miss the rear wheel when travelling two up.

Don't worry I remember you owe me a days hard labour on a house move

But look at it positively, we don't live in a 5th floor apartment! Plus I shall probably be waiting for March so not so much snow and ice!

I lived in G for 17 jahre, and enjoy that the law is the law and you don't mess with them.
I used to do 145mph in my vtec crx on the autobahn and was taken a couple of times by v12 mercs. You will enjoy the A14

It's always the long derestricted stretch of the A2 approaching Hannover that gets me, big Audi's and 5 series travelling at 150 or more and very close. They are bonkers, they say the standard of driving is better than in the UK but when they have a shunt they are ALWAYS big ones!!!!!

A14? I prefer my speed around the corners so looking forward to finding some nice quiet back roads
