Servicing
Chaps - how much should I budget for a proper service? Is it worth going to a proper Ducati dealer? How much more would this cost? Thanks, J

A full service on mine (belts, valve clearance, timing, oil, sparks and filters) normally sets me back around the 350 quid for parts+labour from a dealer. I think they've got to stick to pre-arranged tables for prices, regardless of the time it takes them.

Give Luigi Moto a call, just down the road from you.

If you can find an independent that has been recommended I would use them, if the bike is out of warranty... 350 for all of that from a main dealer seems fair though....

Another vote for Louigi. Rich is a top bloke and will do a good job for a lot less than a dealer.

That looks like a consensus! I'm going to see Louigi and will try not to make any Super Mario jokes. Thanks guys, appreciate the advice as ever. Jules

This is probably a dumb question, but with a new bike, do I need to take it to a dealer for the warranty period (I'm near Louigi).
What about the initial 600 mile service? Will it matter if I get that one done at an independent or will it cause loads of hassle if I need to claim on the warranty. I can get it done at a dealer but it jsut seems a bit excessive to have it collected and delivered especially for the inital one. |

I'm 99.9% sure it'll screw the warranty if you dont use an approved ducati dealer....or maybe 100% thinking about it.
Once warranty is over it's your call |

In theory the warranty will not be void if the service is done by an independant providing they can follow the process to the letter - European law says that providing work is done to the correct standard using dealer specified parts, warranties can't be made void.
However.... If you have a brand new bike straight from the dealer it would make sense to use the dealer as he'll be better placed to fix any warranty issues. There is also resale value to think about - history is essential on Ducatis if you want a good price and I think most would expect to see at least the first few services done by the Ducati dealer. They'll also know of any updates/recall issues. Hope this helps

I had my 600 mile and first year service done at the main dealer. At two years the warranty expires anyway so I had Louigi do the 2 year, and thereafter. He does a better job than the main dealers anyway.

Hi singletrack,
I currently have a Kawasaki GPZ500. I passed my IAM test in December and started shopping aound for a new bike. None of the Jap bikes excited me. The Fazer FZ6 looks nice but it's a heavy bike (over 200kg) and I spoke to a female friend who had one and dropped it a few times, then got the monster 695. I tried the Triumph Street Triple and it's a great bike but wasn't for me. I chose the 696 (rode the 1100 and liked it but was not totally confident with the seat height). It's coming on Sunday (6 days and counting). I live/work near Riders of Bristol but after reasearch and negotiation I went with Ducati Coventry who are delivering (and will collect/deliver for servicing). Riders wanted full price for everything - bike, parts and labour. Coventry gave me a good deal, will deliver/collect and are fitting my extra parts for free as well. They are highly rated on forums (which Riders are not). Just seems a bit OTT to go all the way to Coventry for the first service, but I guess it's best all round for the history/warranty. If they'll do it on a Saturday I can bimble up there while running it in. |
