Service???

Hi, I bought my 620ie last week.. the guy I bought it off had had it from a dealer with 6,000 on the clock.. and had the 10,000 service done for free on purchase. Bike now has 10,000 on clock... I'm guessing it's a good idea to do it again??? I can change oil etc myself.. (with hubby's help of course) but what about those cam thingys you guys keep talking about ... ???? Any advice welcome... Thanks

Hi Sarah (and welcome etc.) - Ducatis have two different service intervals - a regular service at 6000 miles and/or 1 year and a more involved service (belts etc) at 12,000 miles and/or 2 years.

10,000 miles is not part of the service shedule, but what the seller/dealer might be implying is that a 'major' service was done - however, if it was a Ducati dealer, then he ought to know what the schedule actually is.

I wouldn't worry unduly (I'm sure someone here will say "arrrgh get the belts changed immediately") - just wait until your bike has done 12,000 miles and then get a proper 12,000 service done at a Ducati dealer/specialist, and go from there...

However, to confuse things even further, the very latest bikes now have 7,500 miles between minor and major services...

Personally, with an older bike (presumably out of Ducati warrenty now), unless you are doing mega high milages, I would just get the thing serviced once a year, with a belt change (belts cost about £35 extra) and be done with it - I've done that the past three years and have averaged 8000 miles between services...
