How much! (for a service)
Hello all,
Its service time again and due to the demise of DLS I have been looking for somewhere to get the bike serviced and today I was quoted £280 (not including any parts, pads etc.) for a 13k mile service! My y2k M750 had its full 12k mile service only a year ago at DLS and I cant believe that £280 is the going rate at an independent garage, does this seem about right? (excuse my ignorance, but this will be the first non-DLS service the bike has had). Any comparative info would be apprecaited, cheers James |

Thanks dam, Ducati Glasgow charge £289.70 and that includes 'service parts, oil and labour', so £280 seems steep for a non-dealer and no parts!
I have looked around at some other 'specialists' and the prices for a 6k mile service range from £240 to £285. One charges £270(ish) for a full 12k mile service! Looks like £280 is about the going rate (give or take a bit), im just surprised that independents can charge as much as Ducati dealers! I think i paid 170 and that included my man Daryl very nicely taking the diaphragm off and cleaning the fuel filter. But then you'll have to trip oop North and I know you ****enees can't bear that what with the cold and all.
ps, I can use a hosepipe too. |

Ducati John just did my 12,000 (1995 600 Monster) and with new front pads, sprockets and chain plus belts/plugs/filters/gaskets etc and a few other odd extras I still had change out of £380.00. Plus if you offer to do some of the simpler tasks yourself he is prepared to discount accordingly.
12,000 service starts at around the £250 area and prices are dependant on how good/bad the engine set up is. Talk to the guy he seems to know his stuff and is as straight as an arrow with his attitude towards service and costs. I would recommend a visit to the amouries museum in Leeds while the work is done aswell. Taxi there and back is about £20.00 and the museum is free. Last edited by STIVH; 14-04-2006 at 12:07 AM.. |

James,
try Bill Bailey (Roebotech) who works out of APC's in South Harrow. He does a good job and is reasonable. He's factory trained, so he can stamp your service book, deal with guarantee stuff etc. You can get him on 020 8422 5800 or 07931 390689. SimonH |

New dealers & service centres appointed
Ducati UK is pleased to announce the appointment of new dealerships in Ashford and London plus the addition of two new service centres in the East Midlands. MOTORLINE of Ashford are entering the motorcycle market for the first time, by adding Ducati to their six existing car franchises which are spread across 13 locations in the Kent area. The company was established 30 years ago, and is a family business run by three brothers, with Glen and Thomas Obee both already owning Ducati 749’s. Hi all,
thanks a lot for all the suggestions! As, Gilps suggests it is tempting to just go for an oil change given the the 12k service was only a year ago, but I did mention this and ask for an annual service (6k mile). Ducati John seems to be the man, but that would mean a trip 'oop north' which is cold (and closer to the bird flu ). The funny thing about the hosepipes thing down here, according to my mate, is that you are allowed to use them to wash down bikes and things, just not watering the garden should you have one. I will try Bill this week and let you know how I get on! |

The belts deteriorate (age) even when the bike is not used, and may actually age faster if the bikes left un-ridden for long periods. A snapped belt would trash the top end of the engine & cost £££'s to repair, and for the sake of approx £30 parts + an hours labour not really worth the risk. Other things to monitor are tyres, brakes, battery and chain & sprockets as all can suffer after prolonged lay-ups, especially if the bike is kept outdoors or stored in a cold & damp garage. I'd also expect what's left of the the fuel to be well past it's sell by date, so draining the carbs & tank and sticking fresh petrol in would be a good idea.

Just got the bike back from its service, and I have to say everything was excellent!
After chatting to an ex-DLS mechanic mate of mine, he recommended I get the bike sorted by 'MD Racing'. 42 Holman rd, West Ewell, Surrey, KT19 9PG (07783 024248). Good idea, the service provided was great, the workmanship was top notch and Mike is a bloody nice bloke giving plenty of helpful tips and advice. |
