I know you're thinking long term here Nasher, but I'm going to elbow my way to the front of the queue if you're selling. Hopefully you'll keep her anyway.
My M900Sie feels decidedly old fashioned compared to my new bike and I feel the need for a bit of an upgrade without losing the old Monster shape.

I still have no idea of what this bike would be worth if I decide to sell.
To recap it's an M1000 of unknown initial spec with some mods.
5 spoke wheels
Aluminium Swingarm
Ducati Performance Remus Cans
Later Reg/Rec
1098 Fork internals and bottoms with Radial calipers(can refit the original set up if preferred)
Etc.

But I have all the standard parts to return it to stock, and the original tank which has now shrunk back to size after a coupe of years of being left in my storage container with the cap off.

Am I understanding that if you sell the bike then there may be a M1000 swingarm available ?
Do you know offhand if it'll fit a 900ss with minimal issues ? If so, then I may place an offer for it as it would be a nice upgrade from the crack prone version fitted as standard to mine.

Hi

The SS and Monster swingarms are completely different.
The Monster shock is vertical and attached via a linkage.
The SS one is of course an older style direct fitment at an angle.

I did wonder whether it'd work or not. I've recently been told that a swingarm from 1000ss is a good upgrade the crack prone version on my 900ss, and was hoping that the M1000 item was the same as the 1000ss.

Oh well ... stlll living ... still learning ....

M1000 have a different rear suspension due to the different frame so no 'hoop' etc.

If you want to replace the ally swingarm of an M900 with a (non-cracking) steel version then M750, 600 & 400 all use a compatible steel arm and despite being seen as less desirable by most due to ally being lighter, I don't think there's actually much difference in the weight as the ally arm is made from thicker box section to increase the strength and, functionally at least there is no difference though you'd also need to replace both swingarm and wheel spindles as they're slightly shorter plus the chain tensioner blocks are different.

Trying to replace swing on a 900ss, so I believe all Monster swingarms are a no-no.
Also believe that a 1000ss swing arm is the only standard Ducati part answer, but not sure whether the 900 i.e. is an improvement or not...
Metmachex do a lovely version (£580 + VAT) which is nice but expensive.

Some of the last of the line 900SSies had the 1000SS style Ali swingarm, as did I think a few 800SSies.
It's a more tapered design which can be seen in my thread about how I put 900SL bodywork on my 1000SS:

They are very hard to find these days though.

Of course a 400/600/750SS Steel swingarm will fit and will also be slightly lighter.

1000ssie are like rocking horse poo anyway, so good luck if you actually need one of those. I did think that all the SS arms were ally anyway, they were on the carby ones, so maybe just a later one will do?

Only the Carbie 900SS had an Ali arm.
The smaller capacity models were steel, the same as early Monsters.

My 750SS carbie had an alloy arm but it could have been upgraded since it also had full floating rear caliper kit on it?

My 1992 750SS (red, white frame, black wheels - one of the best looking bikes ever to come out of Ducati) also has an alloy SA

My 2002 900ie has an ally SA, but you all probably knew that already!
