Rizoma bars - Tight throttle/idle cable
Recently fitted some Rizoma bars and when testing the steering I noticed a couple of things
1 - When turning the bars fully to the left the fast idle and throttle cable get tight. Looking at the throttle thing on the right side of the engine I can see that it actually pulls on it very slightly. What's the best way to fix this? Is it simply adding some slack? 2 - The controls hit the tank on full lock which means I'll have to adjust the steering stops. This means the steering lock won't work, in fact this never actually worked because my ethanol expanded tank used to touch the top yoke on the left! So the crappy turning circle will now be even worse |

new, slightly longer cables?
first try rotating the bars forward/upwards until they no longer hit the tank at full lock. double check the cable routing. have you compared the old and new bars side by side? to check whether the rise, pullback and width is right. if you ride in town, reducing full lock is going to be annoying in the long run. |

These are slightly higher and have more sweep but not by a huge amount.
I will try rotate them up a bit tomorrow and see how it is. I've had these bars (older model) on another monster, can't remember which one but I didn't have any issues. |

Okay so rotating the bars has sorted the steering lock issue but the throttle cable issue remains.
Where can I get a longer one? And just double checking there isn't a way to slack off the cable or something? Not messed with throttle cables before so I don't know. This is for both the throttle and fast idle cable |

both the sweep and the rise are adding to your problem then.
adjusting the cables won’t help because what you need is longer sleeves (as well as possibly the inner cables themselves) try venhill for custom cables |

Are the cables routed correctly?

Speak to the people at:
https://www.venhill.co.uk/ Ask them to make you some cable that are X amount longer - you'll have to work out what X is depending on how much higher / wider you bars are. |

Yep routed correctly. Cheers I will give Venhill a call.
I'm not too sure how to measure how much extra I'll need other than guestimating They are Rizoma MA006 (formerly MA005) |

Also how difficult are the cables to swap over? The manual mentions having to adjust the throttle body etc. Is it just a TPS reset or is there more to it?

shouldn’t be a problem.
the ‘choke’ is just a fast idle which lifts the throttle off the stop. the tps is set on a fully closed throttle. both cables should have a mm or two of slack in them anyway, otherwise you’ll find if you set them with no free play in july when it’s 30c outside, the free play will disappear when they shrink a bit in january when the temperature drops to -1c |

You may find that another model of bike uses a longer cable?
I fitted adjustable angle clip-ons to my 916 which were also about 2" longer than the originals meaning the throttle cable was too short. I then discovered that an ST4 cable had identical fittings whilst being around 3" longer and is a perfect fit.

I think I will just order some to save the faff of finding them and trying it out etc.
This will sound stupid but what is the best way of working out how much longer I need them? Compare the difference between the bars? |
