I want to lengthen the gear lever peg after taking off the peg rubber I thought the peg might unscrew from the main lever ??? or is it riveted on any ideas please

Many years ago I broke the lever on my Speed Triple and was not going to pay the daft price for a new one so I drilled the lever stem, tapped it almost all the way through and used an allen bolt with red lock tight. The last couple of turns forced it into the threads as I hadn't gone all the way through, it's been there for at least 15 years without any problems.
