An unexpected comparison

For many years I’ve done an annual tour around N. Spain & Portugal on my M900, but last year and just recently I used my ST4 (916) for improved comfort.
Last year, almost 2,000 miles, and I had to add over half a litre of my usual Fuchs Silkolene fully synthetic 10/40 oil, plus a bit more after returning home.
This year, same mileage and type of riding, but on same brand’s semi-synthetic 10/40: no top-ups needed at all. Maybe I’ll switch the Monster to the semi/synthetic oil as well - it is cheaper, especially if it’s not consumed!

ST4 will likely run closer engine tolerances, being a water boiler, which may go some way to explaining the lower consumption.

No, my comparison is for the ST4 on both trips, only the oil changed.
