1200R Induction Kit

Now... I’ve never really thought the R lacked any giddy up but, it’s nice to have a little more if it’s available so I fitted this induction kit from Star Ace in Italy last week and rode it today

The kit with a decent exhaust (Arrow in my case) is worth about 4-5 bhp across the range and after this mornings seat of the pants dyno run, I’d day the bike feels crisper, more urgent and definitely easier to wheelie ... lol well worth it

I'm disappointed that it's only raised to 139. I would have thought my 1200S would read that and an R around 144 minimum. I'm allowing for a 10% loss from the advertised 160 starting point.
My S is supposed to be 150 (2017 model) so I would have thought mine would ready 135 standard.
Also, what torque does it read? I can't work out what 12,12 means. I'm not metric!
Another also, how much for the kit and can you share a link?

depends on the dyno, it’s the difference that matters not the exact numbers

12.12 kgm is about 88.25 ft lb

That makes sense about the manu dyno. I’d say get it tuned and dyno’d and it’ll do waaaaaaaaay more than 139.

Unfortunately cracking the ecu on an R is no mean feat, it’s not the same as the S and is heavily encrypted. Some have said Rexxer maps work but as I understand it as soon as it goes on diagnostic equipment at a Ducati dealer, the equipment will reset it

Star Ace is working with Termignoni to have their T800 available for this kit shortly (without buying the Termignoni pipes)

Strictly speaking, kgm is not a unit of torque.
It should really be Nm, ie force x distance, not mass x distance.
Therefore 12.12 x 9.81 (acceleration due to gravity) gives 118.9 Nm.
Conversion factor from Nm to ft.lb is 0.7376.
So 118.9 x 0.7376 gives 87.7 ft.lb.
Of course, in both cases that should really be ft.lbf (ie pounds force, not pounds mass).
Confusing, innit ?
I reckon the victorian physicists did it that way to spread confusion deliberately and keep the hoi polloi in their place.

Yea, I couldn't make sense of those torque readings either but then my physics is a little rusty. I think Newtons second law of motion F = ma applies. I had to look it up!

I think if its kg/m then its roughly a quarter of the foot/pound figure so about 80 foot/pound (20kg/m) since there are roughly 4 feet to a metre iirc?

Actually my mental arithmetic maybe slightly out. Because if I worked it out correctly then according to my calculator it is 79.554494828995783 give or take a bit here and there. Pretty close though and plenty of wheelie potential on a bike that weighs what? 170-180kg?

It’ll lift in 1st, 2nd and 3rd just off the throttle, 4th and 5th over crests no prob but that is getting near 3 figures.... allegedly....
